How many people here are NOT deaf?

i guess some call me 'mostly hearing' because i can hear and speak, but in noisy situations i can't understand at all. i also have to be looking at the person i'm talking to. technically, i am profoundly deaf with hearing aids...consider myself deaf but sort-of-able to function in the hearing world (so far)..

I'm hearing....and am looking into pursuing my certification in deaf education. Wish me luck in finding the money for this!

A lot of deaf ppl didn't know I can hear their farts as they thought I'm deaf but I'm not. When the time as I get tired of their way to do it again in front of me, I told them to do this finish it's enuff! :D

Deaf or hearing

Beats me what I am... I was born hearing. Until age 11 I was hearing, At age 11 medically I started lossing hearing. I have 6 hearing surgeries that just took more hearing away instead of helping. By age 22 I was medically profoundly deaf in my right ear with a 110 db loss. My left ear I have a 95 db loss. Now at age 35 medically I am deaf but culturally I'm hard of hearing.

I can still understand spoken language about 50% of the time and can still talk on the telephone if I know the caller. What confuses me is when people say they are Deaf but they have more hearing than I do yet they say I am Hard of hearing.

Whatever... I'm somewhere between a big D Deaf and a little d deaf.

Thus said I have no clue where I fit into this question. I'm Deaf, deaf, HoH and hearing depending on who you ask. LOL

Blind...sort of ;)

I guess I should sign my name here too! I am not deaf - I am visually impaired and like to joke that I came here cos I couldn't see where I was going ;)

Seriously, I signed up in the hopes of better understanding a friend of mine who is deaf. People have been great to me in my two days here so far :)

In terms of vision, I am like those of you with partial hearing - who hear but have probs in a crowded room. With me, I can see, read a book or walk down the street but cannot see that it is you waving to me from across the street. I prefer to hold my guy's hand when out in public. I have no peripheral vision thus something coming up from the side can startle me. No vision in one eye and some vision in the other.

My vision never stopped me from modeling tho :)

Well anyway, I saw this topic and thought I'd reply to it :)

Hi :)

Hi Assassin (love your name and icon btw) :)

I have so many pix and have so many of my friends asking to see them that I decided to have a little fun and make a site to put them on. It allows me to practice my graphic design at any rate. I will post a link here and I don't *think* I will get in trouble for that - there is no porn on it. It is real small right now but I definitely intend to add more regularly, add a newsletter, add some fun polls etc over time :) I have not told but a dozen or so people yet.

It's nice to meet you, and thanx for replying to me :)

 for sweetcolette!

whoa, more hearings in AD than i thought. me :deaf: and have been in many 'hearing' forums.

Thanx 2 All :)

Hi :)

I don't want to diverge from the original topic here too much, but I wanted to thank you guys for your kindness regarding my site and Redwolf, love those smilies! ScrappyKat LOL - you must tell me what you saw...I wanna see too LOL! It sounded much more exciting than anything I've ever posted there hehe :)

Disabled people tend to be labeled as such, and then defined by such label. When I once told the manager of a club that I was partially blind he said that 'I was really pretty for a blind person.' It seems that someone with a disability cannot be talented in some way.

Well, I prefer to be defined by my ability, not my disability :)
In answer to an earlier question, yes I still do exotic dancing, but ever since I got into web design I do not do it as much.

I am glad to be here - it is good to learn about and understand our fellow humans; when we do, labels and limits, cease to apply.
