How do you manage your headaches?

Avoid headache sparks. Ttry to avoid or decrease the elements that can trigger your headaches. Possibilities consist of particular food ,alterations in sleeping patterns, and alterations in the weather.

If I were to avoid the causes of headaches, then I should just kill myself and be done with it. Since that won't happen, I will deal with headaches.

Seriously, there are some things that you literally cannot avoid that will give you a headache. Case in point: I am allergic to freon and no allergy medicine will help. Now, I cannot go ANYWHERE where there is no A/C running for the public.

Caz12 - for migraine pain meds other than Advil etc, you really need to stick with migraine specific medications for pain management. Medications especially opiods can actually trigger migraines and make migraines worse (it was one of the reasons I had to go off my Rx daily chronic pain meds- the opiods were causing migraines)

not sure i know what you mean,i was showing that strong opiates may not work ,but if dr given to her just go back untill he satisfaction.those were just few tips i use sometimes it has workedsome time it has not

ah and now I'm on prescription strength Naproxin...you can get it over the counter here in canada as well. either form will kill the pain but make you high as a kite.

The reason for many of my migraines is that my brain similar to epileptics misfires occasionally but instead of having a seizure I get debilitating pain...maybe you should get your brain checked out.

I'd advise to you recommend doctor better question, ask to better specialist to doctor,I don't know not familiar on public on medication or side effect,

I strong recommend advise to doctor otherwise Doctor do it fix will help better know full specialist.

people doing nothing won't answer , but instead better doctor advise to explain to you that is simply! clear better otherwise, I already my experience!

Some of the basics that everyone knows: avoid too much coffee, chocolate (in moderation is fine but too much triggers headaches - as does sugar), harsh lighting - at work I had the building folks take out two lights above my desk to avoid glare on my computer screen which can trigger a migraine, and I wear my sunglasses always whenever outside. Drink plenty of water throughout the day - not drinking enough water can have all kinds of adverse effects. Get at least eight hours of sleep at night for obvious reasons. Exercise which has all kinds of benefits including reducing stress and avoid fast foods: soy sauce, "special sauces," flavorings, grease, and many commercial seasonings are just toxic for people prone to headaches and the less you eat out, the more your body thanks you.

Take soft warm shower. AFter finish, put cold wet apply on small towel place on your back of neck.

I'm quoting this because it's close to what one of the neurologists I used to work for would tell me to do when I told him I didn't want another pill... he said to take a warm/hot bath and put a cold rag across my forehead to my temples. Or set a bag of cold, well whatever you can make up in your house, ziploc baggie of ice with a towel around it, etc. on top of your head. It slows down the blood pumping through your head. Same effect the above is going for, whichever you prefer the shower or tub I guess. (with the exception that you aren't experiencing any blood pressure issues because hot baths can effect this, I got in a hot bath once while I had pre-eclampsia and couldn't feel my legs when trying to get out, a crazy funny story!!!)

Warm baths never did anything for me. Damn near made it worse. I can remember crying, sitting in the bath, in the middle of the migraine trying to swallow a Tylenol, and praying I didn't throw up into the tub. The best thing for me was ice, lots of it and getting to sleep as fast as I could (hard to do). Prayers to anyone that deals with these headaches on a regular basis.

Actually the best thing is to sit in a hot bath with your arms out of the water - then have icepack/compresses on your head & neck.

The reason it works is because the hot water dilates the blood vessels in the lower body and the ice constricts (makes smaller) the blood vessels in the head. What this does is force the extra blood pooling in the brain (the cause of most migraines) away from the head and into the lower body.

The key is to make sure that your "hot" (water, then in bed blankets) below your heart level, and that you're "cold" above the heart level (so armpits to head).

Another thing that everyone with migraines really should look into is learning from a professional something called "biofeedback"

I'll have to remember this if God forbid it ever happens again. I think I was just in sooo much pain, I really couldn't take it. My sister had a friend who had a migraine coming on. She drove like crazy to the hospital, ran into the ER and screamed, "I'm not leaving here till someone gives me morphine!" Much to our amazement, a nurse did. I thought that was beyond cool and made it a point to remember this if I found myself under similar circumstances. If I had the bad luck to be at work when a migraine hit - I'd opt for this route....:)

I have had headaches many times this week, usually a dose of ibuprofen will keep it away, but like the day before yesterday ibuprofen won't remove it at all, and now today I've got another headache *sighs* it's not unusual for me to have so many headaches so just wondering what you all do to keep them away or to ease them?

I do have hypertension so idk if I need go to get my bp checked which it hasnt been checked for six months

I usually get headaches from the weather changing, or from my implants. If i take 2 pills of ibuprofen i'm okay. But if it doesn't work, then i'll go take a nap or take a nice, long hot shower. But the nap usually helps me out. I'd just take off my implants, set them aside and just sleep in my room. My room is like the best place to sleep because i have blinds and a window treatment which makes it pretty easy for me to fall asleep. I'd also take my allergy medicine, for the weather changing. It sometimes helps my headaches too, I take claritin. One pill is enough for me.

You said it better, Thank you!! And I love biofeedback!! When they hooked me up just to see the difference it'd make for me, because you don't get hooked up for biofeedback, but anyway the lines were so far to top of the screen you couldn't see them because my migraine was so bad! When I finished the session the lines were all on the bottom. It was awesome!!!

I think so depend on already, It depend your stress how feeling headache manage handle, how feeling your headache worst, if suppose medication strong not good health dangerous, I understood, I know! , It is very figure out rough complication for me!

Have had a low grade headache all day. I have vacuumed, dusted, changed sheets, washed pillows and washed hair this week, so I know it's not that. I am really trying not to have to resort to my medicine if I can help it. Can't do the bath-tub thing as we have no tub in the house. I have also left my hair down and not put it up in a ponytail. Am eating right with all the right nutrients and getting plenty of water. Doctor says if it's not better tomorrow, then to take my medicine and if it still is there after another 24 hours then to go to ER.
