Gun Expert Lott: Let Teachers Carry Arms, Ban Gun-Free Zones to Halt Mass Shootings

She didn't miss her target :dunno:

maybe she should have ....waited .... for the "good guys" to come instead?

lots of stories if someone simply ... looks.

If you choose to believe that guns do not save lives, it is your choice.

I would gladly concede if you can find me a case where a deranged shooter (armed to the teeth, had delusional political/religious/ideological view) with ill intention to cause massacre was stopped by a CCW holder.

I'm sorry but home invasion doesn't count. we're talking about massacre/mass shooting which you argued that an armed citizen can prevent.... not some mugging or home invasion. MASSACRE/MASS SHOOTING. let's focus on that, shall we?

again - I've stated that I will gladly concede if you can find me such case. please do your best and focus. massacre/mass shooting... not home invasion or robbery or mugging or such small trivial thing, ok?

It doesn't change my view because you are not focus on MASS/MASSACRE SHOOTING.

In our prisons, we have guards, armed with guns/rifles, batons, mace, etc., etc., to protect themselves, along with other peaceful prisoners....

We also have Security Guards that carry guns to protect Stores and Companies....even guard dogs that patrol at night....

And citizens having gun permits to protect their homes.....

Too many innocent children have been killed in schools, a place where they should feel safe and get an education....Times have changed drastically!....

It's a sad, sad day when teachers and innocent children are being held hostages.....in a place where they should feel "safest"...

Sorry, arming all teachers and school staffs are not best answer and not a solution. See my argument about why it is not a solution, especially accuracy and accidental shooting. The K-12 schools are very sensitive area.

The mass shooting/massacre happens in anywhere and totally un-preventable, so look at movie theater and McDonald's massacre.

I think concealed carry is the way to go. The armed guards are usually the first targets.

I know Obama's secret service agents had concealed guns when Obama was at Newtown high school last night. If a person has a gun they better know how to shot to kill, a mass murder need to be stopped right away.

Israeli Model

In Israel prior to 1970's Many terrorists and bombers had terrorized kids by shooting and blowing up inside schools. Israeli Government had passed law entrusting teachers and administrators who had served 2 years mandatory military service be armed with M16 assault rifle slinged on their backs while teaching students in their classroom.

It may sound extreme here in United States but US Government needs to be open minded and look at these issues at hand. Federal Gun Free School Zone never works and increases risks to school children and needs to be repealed. Banning AR15 does not resolve anything.

American school teachers can be trained in many ways and be armed with a concealed pistol

Many politicans do not understand the difference between M16 and AR15. Both looks the same and looks scary. The real difference is the bayonet add on, rocket launcher and also FULL AUTO. AR15 does not have these all features and only use SEMI AUTO.

Full Auto only can fire volley of bullets in one trigger pull until magazine is exhausted. It is only available to law enforcement, military, private security (protecting state and national interest such as nuclear power stations)

Semi Auto only can fire ONE bullet for EACH trigger pull. Thats us we can own.

When we begin to hear cries of "ban guns" and "we need more laws" ask yourself:
If they make the speed limit 65, why do we think it is ok to drive 75?
If you get back too much change at the grocery store, why do most people keep it?
If someone elderly walks in front of you, very slowly, why do you become impatient?

What has happened to respect? Courtesy? Lawfulness?

My view of one reason why there are more of these kinds of situations such as Aurora and Newtown; we have a lot more residents on Earth than we did 20 years ago. The likelihood of someone becoming a crazed mall shooter or schoolyard killer is still the same, but there are simply more people being born. It only takes one of these lunatics to make the news.

Another reason: as people settle into their "head bent down" world of texting, Ipods, cell phones, and internet, they avoid human interaction that is often teeming with good advice, real relationships, and learning experiences.

How many of us consider our online friends to be our best friends? How many of us have slowly begun to lose friendships we had IRL, replacing them with FB friends that share similar "likes?"

Loneliness is often the precursor of insanity. Give this type of person an assault rifle and an insane reason, and watch them make history. It does not matter if they ban pistols. They need to ban insanity first.

What's paranoid, ultraconservative and Tea Party person who pushed for extreme pro-gun law in the school.

You cannot prevent any tragedies, especially school shooting.

You're wrong ! This tragedy could had been prevented if the shooter's mother did not have 6 guns in her house when she had son that all the warning signs
of being a troubled person. I can't the mother when to a bar and told total strange people she had guns in her house. The shooter tried to buy a gun and was not able to buy one. I wonder if the shooter had to buy the bullets or where they already in the house. Maybe people need to have a back ground checkup to see if they even own any guns before they're allowed to buy 200 bullets. That should be a red flag right there. So you think nothing should be done and people should let their kids be sitting ducks and have some mad person kill them in school?

You mean......like the Clackamas Mall shooting?

Also, I am pretty sure people who have been victims of home invasions, robbery and muggings would take exception with your categorizing them as trivial.

Perhaps all schools should have bullet-proof windows and iron-clad doors in classrooms that cannot be entered except from the inside.....

Then again, they have to change classes, and go into the school yard for PE/exercising, etc...Bullet-proof armor for each child?....Too bulky....bullet-proof head gear?....Armed guards escorting the children back and forth to their classes?....

Might as well put our children into prisons where there are armed guards to protect them....Drastic, I know....

Would I feel better if my son's teacher was allowed to wear a gun?...Was trained how to use it....and had no qualms about protecting his/her students? Yes, I would. In the wake of this tragedy, and other tragedies before....it's geting worse and worse. We can sit back and do nothing...and when it happens again and again....

I don't think that you understand about I am saying.

The guns can be stolen or taken away by different family members whoever not register with their name, so it is very un-preventable and we don't know until they break the law, such as getting stopped by police or arrested. It is not our responsibility to look at gun owner's home, even I can't look at Jiro's condo.

The mass/massacre shooting is impossible to prevented without cause any death or injuries, so it is just like earthquake.

or homeschooling your children - more safer than in school.

Requiring teachers to carry guns in school is ridiculous.
Kids are more likely to get harmed from guns misfiring, from wanting to touch the gun, play with the gun, teacher having no way to secure the gun out of kids' reach in the classroom... etc.

The bigger problem with mass shootings is the poor availability and support of mental health services that could prevent those incidents from occuring.

You mean......like the Clackamas Mall shooting?
you might want to check on that more carefully and read what happened.

Also, I am pretty sure people who have been victims of home invasions, robbery and muggings would take exception with your categorizing them as trivial.
yes. trivial in terms of "newsworthy" as it is a common occurrence.... not mass shooting.

and... let's put away that "sleazy politician with sound byte" for a moment.

and how about this as school security guards?

:dunno: Home invasions tend to be fairly newsworthy as do muggings and robberies, especially when a firearm is used by the "victim"
