No matter what SF does to beef up it's earthquake standards and get it's homeowners to retrofit their homes, there are certain parts of the city(Presidio, Telegraph Hill, Tenderloin and Hunters Point) that are built on filled land and in a major quake liquidfaction will still amplify the shaking and do a lot of damage.
