The short version? Alaska's version contains no incentives or payments to doctors in help push decisions for end of life decisions. However, in HR 3200 section 1233 there are provisions that do offer payments to doctors regarding in of life decisions.

Gross misrepresentation. What the bill provided for was payment from medicare to doctors for patient initiated consultations. Why shouldn't a doctor be paid for providing medical care to a medicare patient? In fact, it expressly forbid doctors from giving advice or recommendations regarding a patient's end of life directive, but permitted them only to inform the patient of all options for end of life care given their specific circumstances. Why so afraid of people being well informed?

Again, read the bill.

It is the individual's right to answer in what ever way they deem best for themselves. Why would anyone be discussing end of life directives with a depressed young adult. They should be busy treating his depression.

And the answer is "Yes". If a president has a legal advance directive stating that he wants no heroic measures taken in the event of death, then the physicians are legally bound to follow that directive. The president has the same right to autonomy in health care decisions as everyone else.

And again, the bill never provided for any mandatory services. Consultation regarding advance directives was and is completely voluntary and initiated by the patient.

That's the entire problem - those GOP doesn't want you to be informed, they want to create more phony controversies hoping to scare you into voting for a Republican.

it's not being preventing them from informed... doctors are very welcome to inform a patient... but mandatory inform patients???? that's the problem. Why all the push for mandatory?


anyway, I guess it is the democrat way of saving taxpayers money... mandatory bring up the topic of end of life care no matter what your conditions are. there won't be any plug to pull because there won't be any to pull the first place because of people's living will.

I feel the same way about alot of people who feel depressed about their disability, they should be treating their depression as well but some people think they have the right to euthanasia. But I've always feel people who have depression are suffering too so do they have the rights as well?

I have looked at it (not all but many portions of it since after all it is 1017 pages long) since it will require time. So, it's rather disingenious for you to say "read the bill" as if you have done so by which in all indication you have not. Below is from a guy who actually took the time to read section by section and described it in layman terms. Now, either you have concern on greater and greater govt control over your personal lives or you don't. Are you one of those who says, "I love Government control and so should you"? Ask yourself, how much is too much govt control and intervention when it comes to your personal lives?

Below is list of what Fleck has gone over and I have gone over many portions and related them back to the original bill, and I do have great concerns. If your response is going to be that the bill was misinterpreted or that it was a different interpretation than what's stated in the bill then you very damn well explain why that's the case and show us readers your reasoning. Otherwise it'd be intellectually dishonest for you to say such a thing without providing a clear explaination as to why. I can tell you this, it's my opinion that the language of the bill is disturbing, even archaic steeped in legalese. Fleck has helped with the legalese part but that doesn't mean we should take his word for it but it's a step in the right direction to at least follow up on it rather than dismiss it entirely out of hand. A fool's errand on your part to do so considering that Congress passed this bill (H.R. All of the Dems) without even reading it!!

I can pretty much guarantee you that NONE of you (NONE OF YOU!!!) read all of the passages in this bill, including you Jillio, but Fleck has done so with his Tweet responses that began in July 2009 covering section by section. Fleck has the proof that he read the bill. Others in AD HAVE NOT! Including your moron Senators and HRs, too. I haven't read the whole thing either (gee, it's 1017 pages long!! Ideally, the delicate decisions about how to manage life's end would be made in a setting that is neutral in both appearance and fact. Yes, it's good to have a doctor's perspective. But Section 1233 goes beyond facilitating doctor input to preferring it. Indeed, the measure would have an interested party — the government — recruit doctors to sell the elderly on living wills, hospice care and their associated providers, professions and organizations. You don't have to be a right-wing wacko to question that approach.

This bill creates an undue conflict of interest for doctors which is the crux of this argument and a slippery slope concern down the road. After all, this is the govt were talking about letting them have influence over your private life. Either you are comfortable with greater and greater control over your private lives or you are not. This means more and more money is required to manage this govt program, money we do not have in the first place. Everything is a Ponzi scheme with the govt. Social Security isn't going to last since the govt has raided the SS trust funds. Had private corporations done that by raiding trust funds they'd be arrested. But not the Federal govt. Trust is a vexing issue here.
