Fiancée Visits Craigslist Killer Suspect in Jail
VIDEO: Fiancée Visits Craigslist Killer Suspect in Jail - Crime & Courts, Philip Markoff : People.com

As police continue to search for other possible victims of suspected Craigslist Killer Philip Markoff, his fiancée, Megan McAllister, visited him face-to-face at Boston's Nashua Street Jail on Wednesday.

Arriving at the facility with her mother and attorney, Robert Honecker, McAllister saw Markoff for the first time since his April 20 arrest on charges that he murdered masseuse Julissa Brisman on April 14 and robbed another woman at a Boston hotel.

McAllister, 25, and Markoff, 23, spoke privately for 25 minutes, in what attorney Honecker described as a "candid, frank discussion." While McAllister remains supportive of Markoff (the couple had been together for four years), Honecker said afterward that the young woman intends to move on with her life.

Speaking on Thursday's Today show, Honecker termed his client's meeting with Markoff as "obviously an emotional time for her."

As for what it yielded, "At the end of that conversation," Honecker said, "there was a realization that he has some difficult days ahead with the serious charges he's had leveled against him, and she's going to begin to look at her life and move on in regard to the fact she has things to accomplish."

Having issued a statement of support on Monday McAllister, says her lawyer, "still remains supportive of Phil Markoff, but there are things she has to do with her life day to day and, I think [moving on] will make her a stronger and better person."

Honecker said that when it comes to Markoff, McAllister still "believes he is innocent" and "not the man portrayed in the media."

Attorney: Accused Craigslist Killer's Wedding Off
Attorney: Accused Craigslist Killer's Wedding Off - Boston News Story - WCVB Boston

The fiancee of a former Boston University medical student accused of killing a masseuse he contacted on Craigslist has visited him in a Boston jail and is standing by him, her lawyer said, but their summer wedding plans have been called off.

"I believe the wedding planned for August is being dismantled," her attorney Robert Honecker told ABC's "Good Morning America" Thursday morning. "That wedding will not occur."

Megan McAllister, accompanied by her mother and her lawyer, met with Philip Markoff for about 25 minutes on Wednesday.

McAllister, who did not talk to the media, was not wearing her engagement ring.

Honecker, said he was "not privy to the specific conversation between Megan and Philip," but he said the pair had "an emotional conversation."

"She came away from the conversation a stronger person becasue she made that step," Honecker said, alluding to the fact that she had not seen Markoff since he was arrested and charged with murder.

"Obviously, she was emotional and she, from this day forward, is going to begin to put her life back in order," he said.

Honecker said that McAllister still believes in Markoff's innocence but is ready to let the legal process play out now and wants to get on with her life.

"There are things she has to do and I think the process begins today," Honecker said.

He said unless she is called back by the grand jury investigating the case, McAllister will not come back to Boston and will return to her parents' home in New Jersey.

Markoff is charged with shooting Julissa Brisman of New York City on April 14 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place hotel. He is also charged in a robbery at a nearby hotel of another woman he met on Craigslist.

He has pleaded not guilty.

Law enforcement authorities have said they found a gun hidden under Markoff's bed that matches the one used to kill Brisman. They said they also found 16 pairs of women's underwear and as many as 60 pairs of plastic handcuffs.

Markoff is said to be under 24-hour surveillance in the Boston city jail after two reported suicide attempts. ABC News reported that in one attempt Markoff allegedly tried to cut his wrist with a spoon he had sharpened.

Craigslist suspect's wedding called off
Craigslist suspect's wedding called off - CNN.com

The wedding of a Boston, Massachusetts, medical student accused of killing a woman he met through Craigslist has been called off, his fiancee's lawyer said.

Megan McAllister, who was accompanied by her mother, met Phillip Markoff for about 25 minutes in a Boston jail earlier this week, her lawyer Robert Honecker told CNN affiliate WCVB.

"It was an emotional conversation on both sides," Honecker said, adding that McAllister is planning to move back to her home state of New Jersey.

"There is still a love and commitment to that person, and I think that obviously realizing what has now happened, that she has to take steps to do what she has to do on her life," Honecker told WCVB. She plans to move on, he said.

"There are things that she has to do, and I think the process begins today," Honecker told WCVB.

Honecker told ABC on Thursday that the wedding "will not occur." Watch lawyer tell reporters that Megan McAllister is ready to move on »

McAllister maintained her fiance's innocence in an e-mail sent to ABC News in early April. In the e-mail, McAllister said police have the wrong man and Markoff "was set up."

McAllister's visit was her first since Markoff was arraigned last week on murder charges in the killing of a woman whom authorities say he met through Craigslist, a popular online classifieds service.

Markoff, 23, a second-year student at Boston University's School of Medicine, is charged with killing Julissa Brisman on April 14 at a Boston hotel. Police said Brisman, a model from New York, advertised as a masseuse on Craigslist.

Prosecutors say Brisman was shot three times at close range and suffered blunt head trauma. Markoff is also charged in connection with an April 10 robbery of Trisha Leffler, 29, at another hotel in Boston. Leffler also met Brisman on Craigslist.

Leffler was robbed of $800 in cash and $250 in American Express gift cards, according to police reports.

Markoff has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.

Alleged Craigslist Killer Charged In R.I.
Alleged Craigslist Killer Charged In R.I. - CBS News

A medical student accused in Boston of killing a masseuse he met on Craigslist has been charged in Rhode Island with assaulting a stripper in a hotel, Attorney General Patrick Lynch said Monday.

An arrest warrant issued Monday accuses Philip Markoff of assault and weapons violations. Authorities previously said Markoff, 23, was the suspect in the April 16 robbery attempt at a Holiday Inn Express in Warwick.

Craigslist is a classified advertising Web site.

An exotic dancer from Las Vegas who offered lap dances told Rhode Island authorities that she was bound with cord and held at gunpoint by a man she met through Craigslist. She said her assailant fled when her husband came up to the hotel room.

A law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity previously told The Associated Press that investigators found Markoff's fingerprint in the hotel. They also believe he sent text messages from there.

Markoff faces four counts in Rhode Island, including assault with intent to rob, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a handgun without a license, and use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, reports CBS affiliate WPRI in Providence.

Markoff was arrested April 20 on Interstate 95 while driving with his fiancee to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.

He was charged with the April 14 killing of Julissa Brisman, a 25-year-old New York City resident who advertised on Craigslist, at the Boston Marriott Copley Place hotel.

He also has been charged in a separate robbery at a hotel of another masseuse who, police say, he met through the site.

He has pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, John Salsberg, did not return a phone message Monday.

Markoff was put on suicide watch at the Boston jail where he is being held.

Meanwhile, CBS News correspondent Kelly Wallace has confirmed there will be meeting Tuesday between the attorneys general from Connecticut, Missouri and Illinois - and possibly other states - with lawyers from Craigslist, as the states' attorneys are pushing to clean up the site.

“Craigslist looks forward to meeting with the attorneys general, and anticipates making further progress toward the common goal of eliminating illegal activity from craigslist, while preserving its full utility and benefit for tens of millions of law-abiding Americans who value and depend
on craigslist's free local community services in their everyday lives,” wrote Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster in an e-mail to CBS News.

Accused Craigslist killer faces charges in Rhode Island
Accused Craigslist killer faces charges in Rhode Island - CNN.com

A medical student accused of killing a masseuse in a Boston, Massachusetts, hotel room will be charged in a hotel assault in Rhode Island, the state attorney general said Monday.

Police said the attacker in both cases apparently responded to the victims' listings on the Craigslist online classified ad site.

Philip Markoff, 23, will be charged with assault with the intent to rob, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a handgun and use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, said Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch.

The charges stem from an April 16 robbery attempt at a Holiday Inn Express in Warwick, Rhode Island.

Markoff, a second-year student at Boston University's School of Medicine, previously was charged with killing Julissa Brisman on April 14 at a Boston hotel. Police said Brisman, a New York resident, was a model who advertised as a masseuse on Craigslist.

Prosecutors say she was shot three times at close range and suffered blunt head trauma.

Markoff also has been charged in connection with an April 10 robbery of a woman at another hotel in Boston. She was robbed of $800 in cash and $250 in American Express gift cards, according to police reports.

The incident also is linked to a Craigslist ad, police said.

Markoff pleaded not guilty in the April 14 and April 10 incidents and is being held without bail.

Lynch called the Rhode Island case a "very stark, difficult, horrific reminder that there are predators out there; there are bad people out there," and called for new Internet safety measures.

Markoff's attorney, John Salsburg, did not respond to requests from CNN for comment.

Warrant charges Craigslist suspect with RI assault
Warrant charges Craigslist suspect with RI assault

WARWICK, R.I. – A medical student jailed in Boston on suspicion of killing a masseuse he met on Craigslist was charged Monday in an arrest warrant with pulling a gun on a stripper in a Rhode Island hotel.

The warrant accuses Philip Markoff of assault and weapons violations. Authorities had previously said Markoff was the suspect in the April 16 robbery attempt at a Holiday Inn Express in Warwick.

A Las Vegas stripper who offered lap dances told Rhode Island authorities that she was bound with cord and held at gunpoint by a man she met through the Craigslist classified advertising Web site. She said her assailant fled when her husband came up to the hotel room.

Police had earlier described the suspect as a tall white male with blond hair, which matches Markoff's description. Attorney General Patrick Lynch, at a news conference Monday, said he had no doubt about the identity of the woman's attacker.

"It was Philip Markoff," Lynch said. "He will be brought to justice."

A law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity previously told The Associated Press that investigators found Markoff's fingerprint in the hotel. They also believe he sent text messages from there. But police and prosecutors refused to discuss the evidence Monday.

Markoff, a second-year medical student at Boston University, was arrested April 20 on Interstate 95 while driving with his fiancee to Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut.

He was charged with the April 14 killing of Julissa Brisman, a 25-year-old New York City resident who advertised on Craigslist, at the Boston Marriott Copley Place hotel, in the historic Back Bay district. He has also been charged in a robbery at a Boston hotel of another masseuse police say he met through the site.

Markoff has pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, John Salsberg, did not return a phone message Monday but has said his client is innocent and has his family's support.

Markoff's fiancee, Megan McAllister, visited Markoff in jail last week and has said she still loves and supports him but will be cooperating with prosecutors. Her lawyer has said the couple's wedding, which had been scheduled for August, is being "dismantled."

Because Markoff, 23, is a suspect in a homicide case in Boston, it could take six months to a year before he makes his first appearance in a Rhode Island courtroom, Lynch said. But he said he was committed to prosecuting Markoff even if it could take a couple of years and even though Markoff faces life without the possibility of parole if convicted of murder in Massachusetts.

"You go forward because a community cries out for justice — justice for an act that takes place that merits a response," Lynch said.

Prosecutors could convene a grand jury to formally indict Markoff in the Warwick attack or press criminal charges directly against him.

Markoff was put on suicide watch at the Boston jail where he is being held.

The Rhode Island warrant, signed by a Superior Court judge Monday morning, accuses Markoff of assault with intent to commit robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon, each of which carries a maximum of 20 years in prison upon conviction.

The warrant also includes counts of illegal possession of a handgun and using a firearm while committing a crime of violence, which have lesser punishments.

Rhode Island Officials Issue Arrest Warrant for Alleged Craigslist Killer
Rhode Island Officials Issue Arrest Warrant for Alleged Craigslist Killer - Crime & Courts, Philip Markoff : People.com

Another piece of the puzzle surrounding alleged Craigslist Killer Philip Markoff fell into place Monday afternoon, with a warrant issued for his arrest by Rhode Island authorities – for the April 16 attempted robbery of a stripper at a Warwick Holiday Inn.

"He will be brought to justice," Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch vowed at a press conference at the Warwick, R.I., Police station, the Boston Herald reports. Markoff's latest charges consist of assault with intent to commit a robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a handgun without a license and use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence.

Though Markoff was prepared to rob the woman, he reportedly was stopped when her husband returned to the hotel room.

The former Boston University medical student, 23, is currently being held in a Boston jail without bail, charged with the April 14 murder of New York masseuse Julissa Brisman and the April 10 armed robbery of a Las Vegas escort. He had tracked down his victims through Craigslist online ads after the women advertised erotic services, say police.

After an extensive manhunt, Markoff was arrested April 20 while en route to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut with his now-ex fiancée, Megan McAllister. He was arraigned April 21 and pleaded not guilty.

great .. that should save us tax money. thanks.

Not really, his parents should sue the state for a wrongly death. I heard on the news the the jail guards had to give a 'live body" count every 30 minutes. And this was not done with Markoff , he did not answer when the body was given. The state could be in for a big lawsuit that will cost the tax payers a lot! It is a good thing Markoff fiance broke up with him as she could had sues the state too.

If it was my beloved one being killed by that guy and he commits suicide, then I am going to be happy that it's over and that he's no longer a threat to anyone.

And I don't want any more tax money wasted on the trail. We know he killed him. We have evidence. He deserved death. I don't want his "remorse" - I don't care if he's reformed.
