ofc...but so long you're not going to stupid, dangerous websites, and so long you use a decent antivirus, always updated and use a decent firewall...now its normally combined in a decent antivirus package

but whats more worrying is identity theft, scammer, hoaxers who will try pretend to be your bank and asking for password to 'update their banks or insurance or whatever'
none of these are 'real' always go to your bank to do that, ALL banks do NOT ever send you emails...ever..just so you know..also DO NOT ever buy concert, football games tickets second hand from auction websites ever.chances are its stolen...

Oh yes they can if they find a security hole and gain control of your computer and screw things up.

what do u mean security hole ??? I wants to make sure that I can understand so I protect myself. I hear a lot on the news about the computer about hackers trying to record the microphone being hacked. who ever sings on microphone or/and use talk on over voip skype or other program. so gotta be very very careful with thing. so it is crazy how people do stupid stuff but hey you know.

Malware is also a threat, you'll want a separate cleaner for that too if it isn't included with your antivirus software. There's no such thing as 100% secure, scan your hard drive often and use your judgement and decide if what you're downloading is safe or not.

A hacker can get into a person email account really easy. This happen to two people I know and I open the email thinking it was from someone I knew as it had their email address on it. If you get an email that said 'Hi' or Hello'
or ' Greeting' in the subject line it would best check with the person before opening it.

skype? Yes, they can webcam hack. they're looking for nude on webcam. They can videorecording and sell to porn website.

If you researched here on AllDeaf using Search engine. You will find several posts that I made. There is NO SUCH THING AS FOOL-PROOF Security on the computer connected to the Internet.

The safest way is never connect to Internet, and never share the file with anyone, including USB memory stick, floppy drive, etc. But to achieve that, it is nearly impossible these days.

Simple is, being vigilant and use common sense. If you get E mail from a bank that needs to update information... That's RED FLAG! Banks don't don't do that. They usually will call you and ask you to come in branch to clear up issues which is rare, really.

For example, see here
http://www.alldeaf.com/introduce-yourself/113275-hello-ny.html

That OP made only 1 post so far as of this time. That person have not made second post as of yet. I don't know who this person is, they claimed to be 13 years old blue eye blonde girl. I suspect the OP original intention was trying to find pre-teen or teen boys to kidnap and rape them and their true identity might be 40 years old guy unclean shaven, living in mobile home in middle of nowhere. If that is the case, I suspect his intention was to try to befriend with somebody here though PM, and set up trap. Is that possible? You can bet my ass on it cause it had happened in the past (Not just this forum but other forums too), and will happen again no matter what. I am not saying that this OP is fake, but just saying it does not sound right, don't fall for it.

There are many many ways for hacker, and in middle hacker and master hackers to collect information and try to prey on victims. Remember, whenever it sounds too good to be true, then probably it is.

So, just be careful, and don't fall into trap.

when you have a good antivirus , SCAN your computer regularly, depending on how much you use internet, once a month or a fortnight is good, but if you tend to download, if 'free' programs then you'd want to scan it every time, and scan the computer once a week at least...

Yes, they can do that. It's better to communicate with those people you personally know who, but always be careful...

Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

Since it does an excellent job to detect during scan, it's highly recommended. However, if you want a real-time monitoring, Malwarebytes Pro costs about $25.

While I search website and I noticed my taskbar alerted me.

That's why some people doesn't update their security features in their operating systems and clear caches. There is plenty of security holes that some people don't understand or learn how computer works. It's an easy prey for hackers to target people who leaves the 'backdoor' open for them to access and gain control ie. format, delete files, read email, etc.

frightening what people can do
Yes, it is. I'm taking a class in Information Systems Security, and some of it can be scary about what damage can be done, and how easy it could be to do it.

Yes, even the best technological safeguards are worthless if the users don't use even the basic precautions.
