California to ban smoking in cars with children inside

to be alittle honest...even though I'm not a smoker anymore, it just seems pathetic and useless and would be very hard to tell the smokers when and when not to smoke, etc...

Simple, a cop sees you smoking in your car with kids inside, he pulls you over, much the same as if he sees you without a seat belt on, he pulls you over. I just wish i could ram the cars that throw the butts out the window.

lol I'm sorry but it seems that califorina is proably one of the most strict states with alot of uptight laws and stuff like that... good thing I'm not in Califorina though lol

Personally, I think smoking in the car with children should be outlawed.

That is good news for me at least. I am sick of their smells, their coughs, lung cancer contagion, and their smells.. oh did I mention "smells" twice?

California have these uptight laws to protect others and their healths from proven dangerous substances like cigarettes, pesticles, herbicides, GMO etc etc. At least California showed that they cared for us and our health, unlikely other states or countries.. Europe and California have many similar rules/laws, example: Europe rejected GMO foods from USA yet USA encourage its own people to eat GMO (California rejected GMO as well) .. :/

Edit: I was a smoker but smoked only cloves and *cough* "greens" yet I support the smoking ban law :P

What's next? Illegal to pick our noses while driving?

way to go! I remember the days when my parents would smoke in the car and me being in the back. I HATED it! I always opened window and complained to them that they endanger my health with secondhand smoking. They always roll their eyes at me, but it's true...

I have to say....It's going to be HARD to enforce the law especially if it is a PRIMARY law. If it was a secondary-violation law, it would be okay

What if you drove without a kid in the car and cop pulls you over with a ciggie thinking you have a kid in the car. Sometimes kids in car seats are hard to see with high beltlines, tinted windows, you name it since kids may be sitting in car that would make them almost practically invisible to people looking from the outside unless they were 4 or 5 feet from the car. Then add visibility in the dark especially on rural interstates.

BTW the kids dont ride in my car cuz I already have a smoke-free car (the Sable) that the wife uses..... My ZX2 Escort is just practically a mobile smoker's lounge since I drive alone in the car all times (with the window open mind ya)

I'll be livid if they ban Big Gulps of Coke in my cupholder and my stack of old USA Today newspapers on the front seat in my car.

What a waste of time for police officers.
same for marjiuana too. It completely wasted police officers' time yet they are very obsessed about it. I believe there are other things that already wasted police's time.. I guess it does not matter if there is new law like smoking in car with children inside.

Heck, at least children will have slightly chance to not get lung cancer! :P

I think it is a common courtesy to not to smoke in the car or an enclosed space around children. My ex-boyfriends always smoked outside their houses, because they thought it was not nice to subject other people in the house to smoking. I wish I could say the same for my parents though. I'm glad to be living all by myself in a smoke-free environment.

I agree it is going to be tough to enforce, but the idea is still very good. It is same as speed limit, it is there, but police barely enforces it except in the built up areas. Speed limit is a good idea too.

I don't think it make a big differences if the windows are rolled down while smoking than having the windows rolled up and smoke in the car while Children are in there that is bad! But, With the Windows down that isn't that bad...

I agree with Coffeeeman it waste of Police Officers Time.

The last time we were in New York, they said something about no smoking in bars!! come on, really! they have smoked and drank in bars for 1000 years! lol!
I can understand restaurants, Im glad that they banned smoking in any place where they serve food cuz its disgusting to me when smoke goes across my face when im eating!! ugh!..I dont smoke but my hubby does..he obeys the laws where they ban smoking, he has respect for others really..he is going to try to quit smoking soon..(gawd! i hope so!)..it is a very hard to quit smoking, it is very addictive worse than any illegal drugs! he knows cuz he was hooked on herion many years ago but he kicked that habit in 3 days, piece of cake but cigarettes..is very hard! strange, huh?

Defee, in California, there is a smoking ban in ALL bars. In Utah, we have a strict smoking ban where people can't smoke within 25 feet of any public buildings. Is that enforceable? Probably not, but so many Utahns don't smoke anyway. In Utah, smoking in bars are allowed, but there are also "clean" bars where smoking is not allowed too.

I also think it is rude to smoke in front of others too because it makes their clothes stink too. I hate going to clubs where smoking is allowed, because I end up smelling like a cigarette. I also hate it when I wash my clothes and parents are smoking, then it stinks my clothes up again.

I think its a good law, whether it is a waste of time or anything. Second hand smoke kills twice as fast as smoking. I used to be a smoker, and if I still did, and I had kids, I wouldnt smoke around them. One of the managers at my work is trying to quit, because her 4 year old daughter picked up her cigarette box and said "i wanna be like mommy" but she didnt know that it was bad for her or anything. Sometimes I wish smoking wasn't invented. Because I can't even walk down the street without smelling someone's cigarette smoke, and thus inhaling it.

Maybe cops enforce weird laws because crime is at an all time low :P (In california? wtf) lol ok im done ;)
