    ASL vs Englsih Cultural Clashes

Hearing people and Deaf people definitely have different cultures, for example it'd be okay and polite for a deaf person to ask what a hearing person might consider a personal question appon meeting them. I had to get used to that as a hearing person. I like it a lot now though, I find getting...

    Mistaken for deaf

It becomes physical when because of the disorder one's anxiety makes it impossible for one to speak. Mental disorders are just as real and physically effecting as many others. She said she could only make one small squeak, she's obviously tried to speak and is unable to, thus it has come to be...

    Mistaken for deaf

Selective mutism is still very real, people effcted by it desperately want to speak but because of trauma and/or anxiety they become physically unable to. We do not know her life story or what she has or has not been through. She may feel safer not speaking, she might not be able to afford a...

    Mistaken for deaf

Dissociative Identity Disorder is "Multiple personalities" the disorder you're referring to. It's normally caused by extreme childhood trauma. Being mute can also be psychologically but still very real caused by extreme trauma. Most therapists have the goal of integrating all of the alters into...

When I spoke to an admissions administrator she said the student population was close to 50/50 hearing and non. I'm sure it's a lot harder and more selective to be accepted as a hearing person though.. oh well, I can hope :)

What is it like to be DEAF? VLog

Wow.. I had no idea how much was able to be learned from CC television alone even. He seems to have a very good attitude despite his family's lack of understanding and support for his needs. I can't imagine how hurtful it must be to have someone talking behind your back literally infront of you...

So the sign languages are very different from country to country. Thanks I appreciate you taking the time to answer. Aren't all cars required to have outside mirrors? Mine has the side door lookback mirrors on both sides of the car's front seat. I thought all cars did. They seem the same as the...

I'm getting my associates in ASL interpretation this year and then on to my bachelors. I hope to assist deaf and/or HOH kids who can only afford mainstream schools or who's parents for whatever reason chose not to send them to a specialty deaf school. I'm not sure if I want to go that route with...

It bothers me when a deaf person ask me

I like this about ASL communication. As I've said in another post somewhere, deaf people who use ASL are more upfront, direct, honest when getting to know them. More of my friends are deaf or HOH than hearing these days, I'm getting my associates in ASL interpretation this term in college and...
