    Pittsburgh

Well, what are some of your basic interests? I've given a lot of tours of Pittsburgh - I'd love to give you some ideas. But I can give you anywhere from "Here's where Batman and Bane fought each other" to "This is the house Andy Warhol was born in" to "yes, slaw, fries, the whole bit -...

PA ODHH requiring 2 year ITP degree?

Yes - these are things I know. I have a degree in English Literature, I have a certification in ASL/Deaf Culture; both from the Univ of Pittsburgh. I have my written exam from RID passed and am signed up, now, for the RID interview test. I was surprised to find that the ODHH appears to...

I've been working towards becoming an interpreter and have recently hit a small snag in my road to doing this - the road block as when I came upon the requirements in the PA Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing requiring an associates degree in an interpreters education program... I want to be...

    Deaf culture in New Orleans?

All, Two things about me that are important for this post... First, I spent many a years already living in New Orleans and much of my family is still there... Well - everyone there wants the rest of us to return to the nest - and I'm very happy to do that. I'm very excited! Second -...

    NIC written prep

And to follow myself up - I would say that, roughly, 15-20% of the material I learned from the Shonna Magee book was on the test - that's all. I did, however, pass! So now - on to the interview portion!

    NIC written prep

I purchased the material from Shonna Magee.com and, so far, it seems pretty exhaustive. The workbook is 86 pages and has, approximately, 400-500 questions without answers. I like not having answers because it makes me to a lot of research.. Has anyone used this book at all? My test is on...

    Brand new here...

I don't know really. I suppose I started to really study ASL around 2005 and I was working as a dorm counselor in a local deaf school 3 years later; I'm still working for this school so - I've been signing 40 hours a week since 2008. Somewhere after 2008 then, so - 2009/2010

Terp study guide question re: initiation jokes on hearing people?

This is an odd one to me and I was really quite surprised to come across it... "What are initiation jokes played on hearing people who are new to ASL and the Deaf Community?" Thoughts?

Not WPSD. I am at the Pressley Ridge School for the Deaf which is specifically for special needs/deaf children. I'm uncertain how WPSD is with special needs children; I had an internship there a long time ago (2006-2007) and wasn't with special needs youth.

    Interpreter dress code

I haven't read through all of the comments, yet, so this may have already been brought up... I'm curious what the general opinion is of having to look at an interpreter that the consumer finds to be attractive. I have, on 2 occasions, been distracted by just the level of attractiveness of an...

Hi, I'm Jason. I've been in the field of Deaf education for quite a while now; upon college graduation I received, along with my degree, a certificate in ASL and Deaf culture. Starting in January of 2008 I began to work in a special-needs/deaf/hoh school here in Pittsburgh - I still work at...
