I got implanted over a year ago and I don't benefit from it (yet)

I was implanted on July 18th, 2012. I admit most of the reason is because I was too lazy to put it on and also lacked motivation to do so. I think I only had four mappings so far. I don't know why I don't bother to put it on everyday especially since it will help with hearing people. One time I...

Sonic Boom doesn't wake me up! Defective or...?

AND ANOTHER THING! If I sleep through the alarm, the clock would be flashing and buzzing when I wake up. Few years ago, set it to 11AM and when I got home at 6PM, it was still flashing and buzzing. It doens't ever do that when I wake up late. It looks as if I never set the alarm but I did. Are...

I will look into a battery. What do you mean by puck? When it's in test mode, the vibrator goes off and the lights and the sound if i set it to that setting. no one else seems to have this problem. starting to worry if i am bad sleeper or something.

Sonic Boom doesn't wake me up! Defective or...?

Hi. I've been using Sonic Booms since Summer 2009. I've had 4 different sonic boom clocks. All 4 have failed me. There are times my (NEW) alarm will go off if I set it for 30 minutes later. But for 5 hours later, or even one hour later it WON'T! The clock is in vibrate mode and it's on. It's...

black stuff coming from ear after CI surgery?

Hi, I got the surgery 2 days ago. My ear still feels numb and swollen on the inside as if there is something stuck in the ear canal. last night, my ear had blood crusted inside of it which felt disgusting. I wet a q tip and gently put it in. I didn't put it in far. But when I took it out...

Is Advanced Bionics really "behind" in their technology?

Hi! I have been meeting with a surgeon and audiologist since April-ish about getting CI. I originally chose Advanced Bionics for their waterproof CI (Neptune) which is necessary for a person like me who likes to hear in water situations. Like river rafting, for EX. That's a situation where I...

    Any current/recent NTID students?

I'm looking to go to NTID for a year or two to get around what I've been missing the last 16 years when I first lost my hearing. If I like it, I'd stay. If not, I'd transfer to a hearing college. I've always been excited about college but not the idea of sharing a room with someone...cause I...

    Discrimination against HH/Deaf oralists?

Is this true? In another post of mines, there's a discussion about how deaf students at Gallaudet who use ASL to communicate discriminate against deaf students who communicate orally? I'm asking this because I've only been around hearing people. I've never really got to get involved with the...

What is it like at Gallaudet University?

wow, that's horrible. I thought Gallaudet would be the perfect place for me seeing as how I've spent all these years at a hearing school, misunderstood. I've depending on speech to communicate ever since I started learning as a child so I think Gallaudet definitly would not be a good choice...

oops... I forgot I even posted this lol that's why I haven't been on to reply. Oral, Bilateral Sensorineural Severe-Profound, I wear 2 hearing aids...thinking of getting a CI for my senior year. :) Yeah, that's a good idea to go to a college that has a lot of DHH students...for the past 11...

What is it like at Gallaudet University?

I've never even really socialized with hard of hearing/deaf people during my life, which sucks. I'd like to finally be around people like me and I think maybe Gallaudet would be a good choice (should prob fully learn ASL first though lol) but I was wondering--how is the social aspect of the...

Has anyone tried learning a foreign language w/ a hearing loss?

I used to be extremely good at Spanish w/ a hearing loss as worse as mines and without an FM system. But once my sophomore year teacher started really speaking Spanish quickly, I had to be removed from foreign language classes for the rest of high school. Now I'm trying to learn Portuguese. I...

Can someone please explain CIs to me?

uh...this sure got off topic, i have no idea what most of these posts are talking about lol but I would guess the Nucleus 5 is a good choice. OK , i have more questions! 1) How long does the battery life of CI last, on average? 2) So, there are no fully/semi implantable CIs for my range? In...

Can someone please explain CIs to me?

Thanks guys! I have another question -- will I still be able to listen to my music? Usually I listen to them with earbuds but with cochlear implants, I heard they take away your hearing when you get a cochlear implant....so I won't be able to listen to them with headphones/earbuds? Also, what...

Can someone please explain CIs to me?

Hello. I've had a hearing loss for 14 years and in the last few years it went from a Sensorineural Bilateral Severe loss in both ears to a Sensorineural Bilateral Severe-Profound (left)/Profound Hearing Loss(right). One of my hearing aids need replacing so I'm depending on the right ear to hear...
