    Effing hate my "deaf accent"!!!

Can you explain a little bit more about your inability to "hear your own voice"? I also have a deaf accent, am HoH in the profound category, but I can hear my voice when I talk. When I speak, I can feel the vibration in my head and also hear my voice. Can you not hear your voice when you...

What are some good one-liners or humor to use when mentioning my hearing issues?

Hi all, I'm HoH, so when I tell people that I am heard of hearing, I like to add some humor to it to show that I'm confident with my "disability". Anyone have any good witty one-liners or jokes that they use to ease the topic of discussion?

What are some good one-liners or humor to use when mentioning my hearing issues?

I can try...any others? Really, a good one-liner about my disability works wonders and sets the mood for the rest of the conversation. Personally, I love people that poke fun at their handicaps or whatever shortcomings they may have in life.

Do the thing you fear...and the death of fear is certain

That was a quote from the famous poet and philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson. I'm HoH and thus I am nervous around women, especially ones I'm attracted to. Recently, I began to start doing the things I fear in order to gain more confidence in meeting new people. I am taking a dance class (two...

Dating after deafness... Is it possible?!

I'm 31 and I have a "deaf accent", too. I can hear...but I guess not good enough, lol. I'm good looking, so have no problem attracting the opposite sex...but once i start talking, they flee. :deaf:

Dating after deafness... Is it possible?!

Please explain mor eabout the "diet and exercise" part. Are you making up for your deafness by looking good physically? I agree. It does help, however, it only gets you to the door..but then you gotta answer it and that's where I have a hard time.

I did not know that. Thank you so much for explaining it to me. Now it makes sense.

Born Deaf or has severe/profound only: Who does not wear hearing aids?

Hi all, I was born with severe hearing loss. Just slightly more on the HoH category than deaf, according to clinical measurements (80-85db range). I wore HAs in elementary school, but they did not help at all, so ditched them shortly after 6th grade and never went back...until 2 years ago at...

Does being deaf/hoh make you a bad writer?

Does being deaf also affect how you compose and write sentences? I see a lot of bad grammar in this forum and am wondering how deafness plays in that. I am HoH/Deaf myself, but have never seen the level of run-on sentences/incoherent sentence composition like I see here. I would have...

    Hearing women dating deaf/HoH men

Just saw this thread. I was born with severe hearing loss in the 85db category. I'm now 32, but I never knew I was classified as "deaf" until I got an audiogram the other day for some hearing aids. I always struggled with speech and hearing in school and social situations. I also have the "deaf...

When you talk, can you hear your voice?

Yea, many people that have excellent voices actually hate their voices, especially when they hear themselves on tape/video. There are even celebrities that do not watch their own movies due to this.

When you talk, can you hear your voice?

Sorry guys, I need a bit more clarification. I can feel the nasal/vocal vibration but also hear my voice, maybe not as clear as normal hearing people.

How to fix sounding like you are "talking through your nose" when you talk?

I'm HoH. I have a bit of a "deaf accent" I guess, but not monotone..rather..I've been told I sound like I have severe allergies when I talk (or I guess another way of saying "talking through my nose"). Does anyone know how to fix this? Any tips aside from going for speech therapy? Thanks.

When you talk, can you hear your voice?

I'm confused by some of the things I'm reading in this forum. I have read that some of you can not hear your voice when you talk. What is meant by this? I am HoH and when I talk, I can hear my voice. Is this not the same thing as what the "normal" person hears when I talk to them?

    Am I "Deaf" or "HOH"?

Alex, I sincerely appreciate your post. Thanks. About to turn 30....and all this time I avoided social situations. I think I wasted my time by never accepting my handicap. However, the game is not over yet. I'm putting myself out there and trying to talk to the opposite sex after a long spell...
