Hey everyone, I'm a deaf college student, and am the only deaf student here. I have enough hearing (and excellent speech) so that I can interact with people 1 on 1 ,or with a threesome, quite well. The problem comes with larger groups, where the noise level augments and conversations begin...

Just curious. When listening to, say, blues music, is knowing the lyrics helpful/necessary? Because I'm trying to find songs thave lyrics. Very little luck so far.

I am deaf, and I started driving at 16 (17 now). I look in the rearview mirror every 4-6 seconds to somewhat make up for the deafness. M y hearing aids let me hear a lot though.

Finally. In my school, the fifth video shown in my English class FINALLY had closed captioning. :aw: And that was with all the 5 videos displaying "CC" on their covers, and with a modern TV in my classroom. Has anyone else experienced this, or is it just a case of not knowing how to put the...

True, DeafCaver. It never occured to me the hand-eye coordination benefit, though, but it sounds plausible. And I had few tantrums as a youth. ;) Early sign language must have helped.

I am considering attending RIT. It's one of 7 colleges I'm applying to but probably the one I'm most likely to attend.

That is amazing!! I wish I knew this much when I was at that age.

I would both like it and dislike it if hearing could be completely cured. On the one hand, it makes my life so much easier. On the other hand, it detracts from my uniqueness and the ASL culture as a whole.

Went to schools in the New York area ... not yet in college but I'll find out. I wonder if anyone here went to the same schools as me. I'll have to check the rest of the thread. :)

If college courses include APs in high school then yes ... but sadly my hs doesn't have any class even remotely related to ASL, wish that was the case. :(
