I can't speak for all terps, but as far as I'm concerned, that's WAY better than a monetary tip and really means alot to me. Yes, it's our job, and yes, we are getting paid but a simple, "thank you, good job" really does the heart good. You really make an interpreter's day when you say that.

doesn't matter what state you live in. If you are summoned for jury duty they are required to provide an interpreter. Most likely, they will excuse you so they won't have to continue to provide that support service.

YES!! THAT! Couldn't have said it better myself. I've met many CODA's that have awesome receptive skills (of course, since ASL was their first language), but their voicing skills suck. Why? Because they voice exactly what they see, word-for-sign instead of the appropriate English...

Wow.. you were violated in so many ways, I don't know where to begin. The hosp violated HIPPA laws and could SERIOUSLY be sued for it. If that interpreter is RID certified (god help us all if she is) I would contact RID and file a complaint. She should have her license revoked.

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. Sorenson consistently pays LESS THAN community/VR rates. You can get benefits if you are full-time. Not many people can handle full-time Video Relay interpreting, and that rate is even LESS because of the benefits. So, in essence, it's harder work...
