    Wow! AB's Harmony vs. Cochlear's Nucleus 5!

I have already done so. If you wish to confirm whether what I have written is true, you might read this article. I'm sure if you email Blake Wilson, he will be happy to send you a copy for free. You know, have you even considered that I might have good reasons, rational and reasonable reasons...

    Nucleus 5 and Water???

You assume that the N5 is available where I live. Thank you but lets not get off topic. You may be curious about me, but I shall make my identity known if and when I'm ready.

    Nucleus 5 and Water???

Rain and sprinklers are also moving water :hmm: I don't think it's the motion that's important, rather the level of saturation. Would you wear your processor in a Sauna? I'm guessing no, but if you would let me know. Personally, I would be avoiding anything other than unpredictable weather, but...

    Wow! AB's Harmony vs. Cochlear's Nucleus 5!

So long as you question marketing claims without reliable proof of evidence, then I'm fine with that :) You will however find that most of what I commented on above is in the Wilson & Dorman (2008) article cited. It really is a good read, although perhaps a bit difficult.

    Wow! AB's Harmony vs. Cochlear's Nucleus 5!

How about you tell me a bit about yourself first faire_jour ;) If I prefer to remain annoymous then let that be my business, as if it were otherwise I may choose to be elsewhere. All you need know is that I have some experience in such matters, but do not claim to be an expert, nor be the final...

    Nucleus 5 and Water???

I feel that there's a bit of difference between a bit of rain / sprinkler, and going swimming/ using it in the shower. But see what Cochlear says, they might surprise me :)

    Wow! AB's Harmony vs. Cochlear's Nucleus 5!

I'm not biased towards any brand, indeed although I feel that CIs are the right option for many people, I also feel that all CI users would be wise to learn sign language and become involved in the deaf community as we never know the course the future may take. I have learned done courses in...

    Nucleus 5 and Water???

Yes, but do they say that the device should also be on an individual's head at the time? I would be impressed if they did ;)

I disagree with this CI surgeon predicting stem cells in 15 years

I know, but 50% of what? It doesn't mean anything. It's like they gave some results to the marketing people, and they turned it into a number.

    Nucleus 5 and Water???

A cochlear implant is not physically connected to the brain per se, but it does work by stimulating neurons which are connected to the brain via the auditory nerve, so it depends on your point of view. I was just trying to make the point that water and speech processors shouldn't mix. My...

    Nucleus 5 and Water???

I wasn't implying electrocution, but perhaps I should have made that more clear ;)

    Nucleus 5 and Water???

Haha, but why? It is perfectly reasonable to assume that short-circuiting speech processor might produce some rather awful sensations with incorrect stimulation via the implant (if only for a few seconds). Would you stick a malfunctioning processor on? It might do nothing, or it might be...

    Wow! AB's Harmony vs. Cochlear's Nucleus 5!

I am not a CI user, but know many people who use CIs and have a good understanding of auditory prostheses and how they work. None of the articles you refer to are in peer-review journals yet, but based upon the evidence available: RE: Bevilacqua et al. - This study focused solely on results...

Another CI failure story. No improvement in speech!

Here is some recent Nucleus implant reliability information and Med-EL reliability information if you're interested. The Cochlear information is the most useful, as it gives you some indication of the reliability of devices over 20 years. Other manufacturers don't seem to report results for...
