    Model of CI?

I was planning on doing that for DS (4 yrs old). AB processors (1 harmony, 1 neptune). I wondered if that was an option. Glad to know that it is. He's use to having his hearing aids BTE so I wasn't sure he would adapt to the body worn device. Let me know if you find it bothersome to have 2...

substituting or is this what he hears?

that's a bad thing? I was told by the professional that he needs access to sound and learns from other kids. The TC teacher showed me a bunch of studies that points back to how TC is really better. The speech pathologist gave a bunch of studies that shows how access to speech/oral is...

substituting or is this what he hears?

I tried the total communiction class but the teacher in that class seems to sign more than speak. most of the kids in that class sign as a main form of communication. I really want to give him as much access to speech as he can get right now. in the total communication class there are 6 kids...

substituting or is this what he hears?

moderate to profound, sloping sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. with the right ear profound in the 120 db and pround in the left ear in the 95db I did a little research and found so in the 1000 - 3000 hz he's not profound he's severe. Guess that's why he doesn't qualify. I did...

substituting or is this what he hears?

I am looking at CI. We went to get him tested to see if he qualify for it. We were told he does not. he has to lose more hearing in the lower frequency to qualify. which doesn't make sense to me because a lot of the english language uses the "t", "f" "s" (high frequecy sounds). those are a...

substituting or is this what he hears?

the AuD told me he has to get a 50% or lower to qualify. so according to her, he's doing "too good" to qualify. he just turned 4 (hearing age 1) so the ESP test is hard for him. These are new vocabulary words for him. at 3 years of age he only said 2 maybe 4 words. so he's come a long way...

substituting or is this what he hears?

what I meant is, right now, the professionals (AuD and speech therapist) is telling me wait, give him time to adjust to his hearing aids. this is the normal process and that his articulation will get caught up. even though his hearing loss in the 4000hz is in the 120db unaided. aided he still...

United Healthcare pays for HAs thanks to ADA

just a quick update. the company my husband works for is self insured so they didn't have to follow the same guidelines so they didn't pay for any more than what was written. which was the $1k per ear every 36 months.

substituting or is this what he hears?

just wanted to update. it's now a little more than 1 year. he has about 300 expressive vocabulary. all very hard to understand. I think maybe my family, we're the only ones who really understands him. he's stringing 2-3 words from his expressive vocabulary together. he's still substituting...
