RIT Protest..

AGAIN, I ask: What happened last Friday night when this commedienne was supposed to have given her "show" at RIT???? Anyone??

Lisa Lampanelli is well known if you're involved in the comedy scene. Otherwise, don't be surprised if you get your heart deflated by her words of daggers. ;)

What a bitch!!! I dont like the way she said abt deaf ppl being retarded.. Well, if she said it then shes fking retarded as well!!

Hello, Kahyr (Yiffizer).

Nice to see you coming here after all that time.

Someone on Kelly's (my fiancee) Livejournal said it best regarding Lampaneli:

"Who the hell is this bitch?"

1) I agree with that person 2)I didn't care because throwing my arms up in the air some some degoratory comments isn't going to change anything so I simply chose not to attend the show, and that I used something called, "ignoring her."

Funny how deaf people can't seem to ignore what a person says.

Hell yeah!!! Does many hearing people are making fun of deaf people at RIT?

They need get expelled and nothing to get nice lifestyle in near future, lol...

Well done.

Why is she even bothering coming to RIT knowing that there's a college for the deaf in the campus? I say absurd! :afro:

Hi, Serendipity, I think I read somewhere that she was recently told about the existence of over 1,000 deaf students attending that school. This is why I am curious what happened there last Friday night.....

Well, oops, I might have quoted the wrong post but I was actually referring about the pot of gold.

Ahhhhh, I understand now......still waiting to hear what happened last Friday with Lampanelli....

Pot of Gold

Your my fucking hero! Come back to RIT anytime and pick on those retarded deaf people!
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.....Oh the irony! Pot of Gold is retarded themselves b/c they can't use your vs you're correctly. Pot of Gold is probaly one of those dumbasses who think that we're MR b/c we talk funny...........I've dealt with too many dumbasses like that before!

I know who led the protest.

He was interviewed by the news. First, he said that she had no right to speak that way. Then, he said that he believe in freedom of speech.

Boy, talk about contradiction! :sure:

Well, there's freedom of speech and slandering. There's two different things. It is one thing to openly criticize certain groups for their poor qualities but it is another thing to slander them by claiming they are doing something terrible which they haven't.

There's also freedom of speech and excessive badmouthing. Lisa Lampanelli, while making herself clear that she's an insult comic, stills crosses the excessiveness. It's not something that is seen as morally "okay".

Yet, he goes around slandering hearing people?

I really don't know who you're talking about though. I only know one girl who led this also: Noella Kolash. ;)

Agreed. I think the protest should have never happened, period. It just shows how hypocritical some deaf people are.

And is it ok to have your arms up in the air bitching about Ms. Lampanelli when everybody stopped caring the very next day? It's silly, really.

Everyone that protested her comedy should have chosen to IGNORE her like I did. I mean, NO ONE forced them to protest an insult comic. The freedom to make choices was there all along. USE IT.

It's that simple.

The article says:

"People who aren't familiar with her comedy, it's easy to get offended by it," McComb said. "She loves everybody. She's not hateful in her act. The reason she gets away with things like that, people know when you're hateful about it and it doesn't work."

However, it seems pretty hypocritical of the agent to try and defend this comic considering that she didn't know about the deaf students at RIT. It wasn't like she knew she had a deaf audience and was doing her act; she just made a bunch of insensitive comments not knowing it was really the wrong place to be doing that.

But I agree that freedom of speech applies here. What she said wasn't hate speech (which is not protected under the First Amendment); it was just obnoxious. Unfortunately, there's no legislating against jerks!
