A Thread About Absolutely Nothing! Part III

Good Morning everyone!

Yesterday, TCS and I went to the outdoor shooting range to practice using our shotguns. (We have a clay shoot coming up soon.) This range is way out in the Francis Marion National Forest where there's no cell phone service for many miles.

We had a good time shooting. We packed up the Jeep and were ready to head home. (There are no facilities at this range, so I also needed a potty break.)

TCS put the key in the ignition and nothing started. After checking a few things he determined that the battery was dead.
:(

This could be bad. There is no way to call for help where we were. Not for at least a 15-mile walk thru the woods.

Happily, there were still a few other people at the range and one of the guys gave our Jeep a jump. It worked! Whew!

We made it home, late, but safe. TCS went and got a new battery.

Thanks goodness someone still there to help you guys. I am glad you got home safely . :)

That is scary! It seems like as big a facility as it is based on my memory of your prior description there should be some kind of emergency contact available.

You're confusing the two ranges.

One range is indoors, in town, full facilities (including heated toilet seats in the ladies' restroom  ). We use that one mostly for our handgun practice.

The other range is outdoors, in the national forest, no building or facilities. We use that one mostly for shooting our long guns.

It was the outdoor range we were at yesterday.

It just seems like they should provide some method of emergency contact even if not as developed. They do expect people to go there to use it.

So, there should be landline phones every mile along trails through mountains. I mean, they do expect people to use these trails. Ever hear of roughing it? Reba & TCS chose to go to a range out in the wilderness knowing it did not have creature comforts including phones or cell service.

You are comparing apples and oranges. This is a place where people are expected to go by vehicle. Why not provide some provision for getting help?

Not really 'apples and oranges'. There are many facilities /places that cater to the outdoors type person. Bike trails, hiking, mountain climbing, parasailing... where many outdoors activities and places go- there's no means of communications- at least not easily anyway. Sounds like this is the same for the shooting range. They must have been out beyond the sight of any sort of building. What would have happened if there was NOBODY there to help with the jumpstart of their jeep? Usually 'if not as developed' means there isn't going to be any kind of method to set up provisions for emergency contact-- even landlines/payphones or those old call boxes.

I get what you are trying to say-- emergency contact if they don't check in but in that situation I'd wager whoever is running the place would go out and look for them first before calling rescue and police (which would be my first call before their emergency contact!).

Feels like the ghost of brother Hoochi is speaking in here.
