Oregon community college shooting, multiple casualties

Apropreate defense for are children means that each classroom has protection and a way to warn the school. Idealy each tearcher would be trained and armed (could be non lethal solution) and have an alarm button that would warn the entire school that there was a threat. There needs to be drills just like fire drills and there needs to be a team of at least 4 highly trained (could be staff not responsible for watching children) people to go and deal with the threat.

My wife works at a school. They have 1 officer that's supposed to watch the entire school and their official plan is to lock themselves in rooms that are full of windows. Basically they are all going to hide under the blankets and hope the monster goes away.

Remember Timothy McVeigh? He rented a truck to conceal the bomb, mind you he didn't crash into building, just parked next to the building then boom! half of building was gone. He didn't make much effort to achieve his sickening goal. If he achieved like this, there will always be somebody out there thinking the same way as Timothy McVeigh thought of.

It's pretty tough to conceal a bomb that weighs more than 2,000 pounds and walk into a classroom or movie theater pulling or carrying it and then setting it off. Your bomb with 250 gallons of home heating oil would weigh in at 1875 pounds and that wouldn't even include the weight of the fertilizer. These mass murderers aren't interested in killing their victims by remote control, they are angry with the people that they feel have wronged them somehow and want to see the terror and pain on their faces when they shoot them. They aren't terrorists, they are mass murderers and worldwide their weapon of choice has been a gun.

Or even better, hire unemployed honorable discharged veterans carry their firearms, they are already trained to take out anyone in no time. Cheaper than having them sit at home and getting check from government, a very unproductive way spent by taxpayers. Sad!

Yes, and that worked really well in the OR shooting, the first person killed was the professor and he was shot in the head as the shooter entered the room.

How about making the schools like prisons and just putting up a wall around the entire campus with razor wire, alarms, guard towers, the works! and only one or two gates with armed guards and metal detectors that everyone would have to go thru if they wanted to get in or out, if they came in with a gun they would have to surrender it at the gate and when they leave the campus they would be given back their guns! It would make everyone happy, the parents wouldn't have to worry about someone coming on campus and killing their child and the gun nuts would be happy because they could still have their gun, just not on campus. It would be like the sheriff or marshall in the old west who made everyone surrender their guns when they came into town! Oh, and the gates would have speed bumps and be too narrow to drive a truck through, so you wouldn't have to worry about some nut driving a truck laden with a bomb on campus. I think it might work!

By definition McVeigh was a terrorist, not a mass murderer, although he did commit mass murder with his crime.

We aren't talking about people who just want to kill scores of people by blowing them up. We are talking about people who feel they have reached the end of their rope and just want to shoot and kill as many people as they can and cause the families of their victims as much pain as they feel people have caused them. The weapon of choice for most if not all of them is a gun. It's easy to get, easy to conceal, with an automatic or semi automatic it can shoot many people quickly and it's deadly.

And how much do you want to pay to have your child educated? Since every room in every school in the US would have to have a former soldier in it armed and ready for action as well as every entry point to the campus. Do you know how many schools are in the US or how many classroom that would equate to? I also doubt they would work for a soldiers pay since they wouldn't be soldiers anymore and they probably wouldn't come cheap. Keep thinking! The easy way to fix the problem is keep people who are mentally unstable and want to harm others from getting a gun.

So how does strict gun control stop people from killing people again?
Seb?

Do you have any idea how many billions of dollars gun control cost? I would much rather spend my tax dollars hiring professionl protection for schools then useless gun laws.

So? What's to stop a mass murderer from doing the same as a terrorist? Motivations might make a difference in trying to find these people before they act but they don't change the tactics of how to deal with them once they have and the victims are just as dead anyway.

These shootings will continue to happen as long as they are successful. Right now students are sheep in a pen. Give schools some teeth, stop a few shooters and others will not follow.

They will not stop because you aren't dealing with rational sane people. If they don't go to a school to do the shooting they will go to a mall, a large company, a movie theater, etc. They are sick and should not be allowed to have guns. Take away the guns and they may still kill someone, but will use a knife or some other weapon that won't have the killing power or capacity that a gun has and they won't be taking out 10 or 20 at a clip and wounding 20 or 30 more.

It's keeping the guns out of the hands of the people who shouldn't have them. How many times in these shootings have family members said after the fact, He was dealing with some mental issues, yet they still didn't let the authorities know and let him keep or have access to firearms. Look at the laws regarding guns that Australia put into effect after their shooting several years ago, they haven't had one since, we have one every couple months or even weeks, matter of fact we had another one today at a college in AZ! So yes, the lack of really regulating guns and their sale is working quiet well in the US; we have people who shouldn't be allowed to own a gun getting them and going on killing sprees at schools, college campuses and not to mention all the gun violence happening in the streets on a daily basis on the streets and a bi monthly basis at schools. We can thank the NRA for destroying America and killing a lot of innocent people!

Read what phycologist have to say about these shooters, they aren't interested in just killing them in huge numbers, they are interested in seeing the fear in their victims eyes as they are shooting and killing them and causing them as much pain as they think they have suffered. It's not about the killing, it's about evening the score so to speak.

How do you propose keeping guns out of the hands of those who shouldnt have them?

It wouldn't cost the government much if the person wanting to buy a firearm had to go to a shrink and make sure they were mentally competent first before being able to buy a gun. The person would shoulder the burden of the cost. I'm not talking about taking peoples guns away as long as they are mentally fit, I am talking about not letting people have or buy guns who shouldn't have them in the first place.

The huge plm with this is.
Shrinks are not fortune tellers..often enough those with undiagnosed mental issues wont be showing the signs and symptoms for a shrink to catch. or in most cases people are fine anyway until something occures to cause a snap.
Another issue is who exactly will be targeted or classed unsuitible?
Is it the millions on anti depressents or other stabalizers?
What exactly will the measure of clear mental normalcy? (which ever way such a concept is defined)
So obviously in this judging by your posts
Asperger and all related issues...disqualified
Anyone recieving medication for mental issues of any kind. Disqualified

Is this what your proposing?

Maybe we should all undergo a mental evaluation to make sure non of us are murderers.

We would all fail lol everyone is capable of murder... Regardless of how meek they may be... And we are all crazy in some way and to some extent...
