Gallaudet U

I thought it improved compared to when I was a student there?

Yes but it got worse now due to budget cut, especially block meals are cheaper, low quality food.

Peet Hall will close this fall and not dorm anymore, but it will be office only.

GIS office is in 4th and 5th floor in Peet Hall.

HMB is major renovating this year.

Carlin Hall will have new carpeting and painting this summer.

Why the closure?

Why the closure?

because of not enough students and a lot of maintenance problem.

West Ballard and Peet Hall have a lot of empty rooms so it is cheaper to close Peet Hall and fill students in West Ballard

Budget cuts seem to be a strong imposition in my life these days. Aha!

wow.. I wondered if they'd be closing dorms or not as I've read elsewhere that enrollment is declining.

Ha.. Carlin Hall (aka Dorm 5 lol)... I still remember the color scheme- 1/2 red... can't remember which floors were which but there were also orange, blue and green.

Not used to reading West Ballard. A bit disappointed they changed the names of those two dorms...

Yes, Gallaudet University has more new students that raised in oral language only since deaf people with ASL from residential schools are declining.

Spring semester has fewer student population than fall semester.

Yes, RL director told me that Carlin Hall was renovated in 2000 with white painting and darker carpet (mixed of dark blue, teal, tan) so it is worn out now - too much stain and dirty. Carlin bathroom floor painted with dark green that masked old red floor. Carlin Hall will renovate this summer to replace the carpet and new painting, also deep clean in bathroom. Carlin bathroom need renovation very bad and all sink, toilet and shower from 1979.

Fay House, Denison House and Ballard House have hardwood floors but unfortunately, their quality is cheaper and too much scratch and black mark.

Yes, West Ballard used to be Krug Hall. North Ballard aka Cogswell Hall is housed by MSSD students until next year so they will move to new MSSD dorm as North Ballard will return to university.

lmao.. yes the colors were not the best though I liked the green. I lived on the 2nd floor 4 of the 5 years I was at Gallaudet and I hated the red (I don't like red in general lol).

Apparently Ballard was the first undergraduate to receive a degree from Gallaudet but why he gets to have TWO buildings is beyond me.. ?? I also prefer Krug and Cogswell.

Melvin Ballard

I was last at Gally for Deaf Way II but don't remember if I stepped foot into Dorm 5 or not but Foxrac's post reminded me that I had heard they did update the carpeting etc in there. Glad to hear they're finally doing something with the old bathroom fixtures.. nice but the light in showers were.. DIIIIIM.

I think we were in Dorm 3 last summer....boy, that dorm is pretty beat up, lol....

Which was Dorm 3? I remember Benson Hall being rather shabby- I stayed in that dorm during NSP. Krug & Cogswell I will never forget the bolted furniture and the uh... bed/couch set up...

I think it is Clerc Hall.

Just curious, you used to live in Ely Hall (men dorm) when you were Gally student in 1960s?

Yes, I did. There was one special 2 bedroom that was reserved for the Head Senior in those days. I stayed in there for one year as my friend was the Head Senior......

P.S. I lived in the following dorms in this order: College Hall, Ely, and Krug....

The dorms at NWC were NICE wow... I only visited as one of my old NSP friends was a prep there and I was an entering freshman.

Does Gallaudet still do Prep class?
