Grrrrrrrrrr

Well said, Frisky!...give Mamma the benefit of the doubt and in time she will realize a lot about deafness....but still no reason to "coddle" a child when there is so much technology out there to make us as independent as possible....

It actually makes me laugh.
My husband and I both have profoundly deaf mothers of 90 years old.

I can imagine their reactions if we contacted either of them to help us with insurance.

Of course we do have our insurance as with most other things set up to communicate with email... Our agent actually emails thanks each month for the payment.

Wait, dont you?
Yes I have internet, no I dont have vp and all the fancy do-dads you all may have.
As CB2 said you are learning ASL, oh well (excuse me, I got to piss...I am back), I was not aware but the point is that you are not supposed to be helpless because of that. Internet has everything you need so you don't need your mom's help anymore. Be a big man! I mean what if your mom is gone? How would you handle it yourself? Bother next door and ask for help?

Well, that is something I plan to talk to them about. I make my payments online, but they have no way to communicate online that I know of, so I will talk to them next week when I go up there to see if they have an actual website or email that will get responses or read. I know a few companies I had before they either never answered, read or responded to , so had to constantly call them or drop in to get anything done which was aggravating in every way possible

sign up for sprintip relay!

Thanks, at least you haven't started with the obscene name calling yet!
Like I said, this isnt a rant, no reason to be pissed, just a conversation about not being respected or acknowledge about being deaf.

No I dont depend on my mom, noticed I asked if she could make a call for me, if she was too busy I'd ask someone else. I dont want to make an hour drive just to walk in the office to say a couple words then head back home.
I guess none of you ever needed help from anyone huh? sad.
No, I don't need anyone's help. I am independent and have everything I need to take care of my problems. (Honestly, I am a little pissed off when hearing people don't use 711 to contact me)

I mean come on, it's almost 2015 and you are behind? Didn't you check out "Deaf Products & Technologies"?

Does it look like I did?

Dont eat your cheerios....

wow, is everyone Hostile today?

Just about all your posts are hostile. The landlord, parking, everything else, and now this.

I understand the frustration with communication with family. I've been there and done that. But I don't take it out this way. You need to find alternative ways to communicate, whether it's texting, or relay, or as others have suggested, TTY (I am leaving that as a last option because I know how outdated that is these days), and so on.

Not hostile here. I can relate to your issue. I use Siri on mine to capture my text and send it.. it's not perfect but it works. Most of the time I have corrections to make to spelling but it cuts the time in half when I text. As of for my family.. My kids are still to young to get it that I don't pick up certain things in their speech and they get annoyed with me. My hubby is a good man. He don't mind repeating or making calls sometimes. I have just recently started using a website for my doctors appts through the military clinic. Much better, I don't have to call and wait nor deal with speech problems on the other end when the person who is answering has a heavy thick accent. My kids know if I don't answer my phone it because I didn't hear the ring tone and they text me.
BTW.. I don't have any of the deaf technology in my house. Don't use them because I grew up with out them. The best thing I had was a dog and it helped a ton and he died two years ago. I think I will get me another one when the time is right. My hubby says to me.. to remind me that we have to live day to day on life and we never know what is going to happen to us, he could die tomorrow and he worries about how I will survive. I told him I will do the best that I can with what I know.

i will as soon as I figure it out and get some info, I have no clue what it is.
But ummm, I have ATT

Perfect example. Time for you to check out alternatives.

(Edit: Meaning you should check out the Sprint Relay as an alternative. It doesn't matter what phone service you have. You can still use Sprint Relay.)

yes she made the call for me and texted back the responses.

Ok. Since you just got CI. I sure hope your mom will accept your deafness someday once your CI is activated.

I just reread your original post again. It sounds like your mom was teasing you. Wasn't she?

For bill payments and such, what I do is I bookmark the bill paying websites, and when the time comes, I can easily find them. I also pay my bills on-line, along with having e-mail and text reminders that they're due. Makes things a lot easier. Sono, might it be possible for you to do that? Like on my phone, my bookmarks for bill payment are automatically saved on Google Chrome, so if I'm on the move, I can pay it quickly.

No, its the same every time I see or contact her, why cant you call? maybe next time I will text and say, I dont have internet or a cell phone ( see if she catches that ) how else would I have FB or text her?

I know its crazy, but hearies just dont understand or get it, and some just flat out refuse to accept it. I got friends who told me if I need them to make calls for me or whatever to let them know, but by time they get home the offices are closed... not comfortable giving out personal info to all my friends, just a select few I can truely trust, and those few arent anywhere close to contact as well. Ive never had the tech stuff other than an amplified phone, and now that I actually need stuff VR changed their guidlines and cant get crap from them now anyways.
