Thinking about how frustrating the CT DMV bureaucracy is. :mad:

TCS and I are giving TCS's motorcycle to my brother as a gift. A total gift--no money exchanged at all. BUT CT DMV doesn't believe us! TCS mailed the signed title and bill of sale to my bro, and filled out and signed the CT DMV form that is required for a vehicle gift. The CT DMV is still not accepting the transfer! Grrrr!!! They need "proof" that the bike VIN and title VIN are "authentic" and that it's a gift.

My poor brother is being given the run-around. The DMV is saying that he might have to bring the bike to Hartford (state capitol) before it can be tagged. (A ride to Hartford would be very inconvenient.)

I hope he will have some good riding weather left by the time he gets the bike delivered and registered (to CT's satisfaction). Shipping the bike has already been delayed almost two weeks. :(

TCS told my bro that he needs to move to SC for year-round riding and "the land of the free" at DMV. :lol:

Government bureaucracy is a pain in the butt, and not any fun to deal with. These kinds of things give people far more stress than they need. I would know-- I've been there before.

TCS should have sold it to him...for $1. That's what we did with my husband's care shortly before he went into hospice. Had no problems. Of course, it wasn't moving out of state, which might be the main problem with your situation.
 
ahh, September! What should I do for my birthday? Hmm... it's on a Friday (Sept. 19).... hmmm!

Yikes Reba- I hope it gets resolved soon. Things are harder these days. I once loaned money to my sister so she could get a car (actually a truck...); I lived in PA she in FL. Very little paper work.

Yes she paid me back.

The $1 sale might be an idea but still it shouldn't be that big of a hassle to do it as a gift. I guess either CT is more strict when it comes from out of state- or whoever is handling it doesn't know the rules or is bothering to research.

I was going to suggest that too , sell it for $1 ,, I have seen people do this with a house too . I was reading a list of houses that where sold and one was for a whole buck ! So thy could sell it for $X and then give the money back to her brother .

Just because California has the "fair market price" rule, I'd say most other States do, too.

However, in the specific example here (Reba's), California allows (for a mere $15.00 fee) transferring car titles (pink slips) amongst family members without incurring the fair market value rule for the purpose of generating revenue......
 
I am thinking of what I should do when fall rolls around in a few weeks. Obviously taking pictures around Chicago won't be an option when it gets colder, but I still want to keep busy. I'll see what I can find. Pretty sure I'll come up with something.

I think that houses that sold for $1 MAY be houses that passed hands due to inheritance/will.

Yeah , I know, my younger sister was getting married and my mom was going to leave her diamond ring and my sister wanted the it for her engaged ring. So mom sold the ring to my sister b/f for $1 . It's a 2 carat diamond ring . Dad told mom the ring feel off a truck full of carrots.

Why did your husband give away his motorcycle? I remember seeing a picture of his motorcycle few months ago. It looks nice!

The problem is, in CT, if we do that my bro would still have to pay the full book value sales tax to the state. (Yes, we checked on both ways.)

CT wants all those taxes it can get. :mad:

The state of CT taxes everything possible. We have other CT family members who put up an above-ground pool instead of in-ground, a retractable deck cover instead of a porch roof, and a "portable" garage instead of a built one, strictly for tax reasons. It's crazy.

Yes, it is a very nice bike. :)

He bought a trike with matching trailer instead. It's a fully-loaded Gold Wing, and is more comfortable for our aging bodies. :)

The trike makes it possible for me to ride (short distances) with my Parkinson's Disease, and for TCS to enjoy longer rides.

He tried to sell the bike for a few months but no one was interested. When we visited CT this August we mentioned it to my brother. I could sense he was interested (he used to ride when he was younger). We knew he couldn't afford to buy a bike. Almost simultaneously, TCS and I got the same idea--let's give him the bike!

My brother is paying for the shipping and his own insurance, registration, TAXES, etc.

While we were up there, we went shopping together and he bought a helmet and gloves. He was really getting into it. :)

Since it was a birthday party for a little girl, all the little princesses were the most adorable. They were the best dressed, and they all got glitter in their hair as one of the "princess" activities. They were really cute.

There were a few little boys at the party, too, but they didn't go all out for the "prince" look. :lol:

We had birthday princess cupcakes, crown brownies and cookies, and watermelon scepters (star shapes on sticks).

The room was decorated with princess stuff but not over-the-top. The kids had crafts and games to do.

The party was two hours long--just enough. :D

That is true in my state , Massachusetts too you have to pay the full book value sales taxes . Massachusetts is called Taxachusetts for good reasons .
