Florida is a big state- I'm sure it's safe enough to go there. Can't live your life by fear.

Never say never neither. When I started college, I'd only been to Italy and New Jersey (summers). I'd have laughed if anyone told me I'd travel to many states and 2 more countries in my life. For me going somewhere to meet a new person is a HUGE step (I am not a people person in general)- so I make it an effort to travel (and find ways to pay for it).

That's true-- never do say never. However, with my present situation, I estimate it would take about 18 months to save up for a trip out west. Even more for Florida, considering how much one spends there. And I've never been out of the US--can't fly. Only way for me to get around is by rail. All I gotta do is just figure out how to begin saving, although I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do. Still not sure if it's really a good idea to head out there.

Maybe you can go with a group and get special rates.

Why can't you fly?

I've been to both Disneyland (as a child and teen), and Disney World (as an adult). I enjoyed them both but Disneyland is most special to me, probably because I was a kid, and Disneyland was still new then (1959).

Because I rode in a medical helicopter twice in less than 10 years. Doctors back then warned me that it wasn't a good idea to try and fly. As for today, I have no idea.
 
?? It's worth checking out now if you have no clue why you can't fly. I find it odd/interesting that they "warned you that flying is not a good idea to try and fly" Flying in a medical helicopter is miles different than flying in a giant plane unless there's some sort of issue with anxiety or something (and there's xanax for that- I know of folks who have a difficult time with flying but are fine with a one time xanax to get through the trip).

That just doesn't add up.

There's also always cruise ship trips- you can find good deals with that too (and there used to be Deaf Cruises- don't know if these still happen or not).

Well, consider the fact that I rode them in 1983 and 1990. That's 7 years, and when I asked the doctors after an regular checkup one year if flying was advisable, they said no, and when I asked why, they said my ears were at risk of having the eardrums blow out. Truth be told though-- I had my doubts the helicopters had anything to do with it, and I still do to this day. What I can't figure out is how my eardrums would blow out if I flew. I have a form of hearing loss that was caused by Rubella in 1983, so that may have something to do with it.

That's true. I should try it, but here's the problem-- I have a fear of being 30,000 feet in the air. Heck, the Willis Tower's 110 stories is too much for me.

Yeah, they still take place; as a matter of fact, there's one going this coming October....

Did you ask why?

Is an emergency trip in a medical chopper the same as a vacation trip on a passenger jet to Disneyland? If it is, I must be missing something.

What about 29,999 feet in the air? Would that be OK?

See my post above I suspect ît's not the helicopters; they're just not wanting my eardrums to blow out, although I can't figure out how that would happen.

I'd like to try and fly. Like I said, I have a fear of being 30,000 feet in the air.

Actually I think a small airplane is more suitable. They can't go that high (I think.... could be wrong here). And I don't have to worry about cramped legs.

What about Megabus? I know it has limitations of travel might work for you.

There is that. They are pretty cheap, from what I've heard of them. Problem is, I haven't ridden a long distance bus in nearly 25 years. Last time I did I was only 5, and headed to Lockport, IL. That was way back then.

I heard they are comfortable easy to sleep on the long ride .

Hmm. Sleep and comfort are a must. I'll have to check that out.

Update: Megabus currently does not serve California--at least not yet.
