Ammunition Rationing

Some of my brass I reload 6 or 7 times. You can inspect between firings. If you load it hot or it's cheap brass you wont get many reloads if any.

What's the safety factor? If you blow out the side of the casing, can you lose your thumb?

not percentage. just how many time you can reuse it. for safety reason, it's advisable to reuse it only once. twice..... risky.

If you're loading mild, it's not a big deal to get 5+ uses out of a brass. It all depends on what you're shooting, though. .40 doesn't do so well with multiple reloads, whereas .45 and .38 are great for reloads, and you can typically get as much as 10-12 uses out of a single brass.

If you're loading for target shooting, then there's absolutely no reason to load +P, thus wearing out your casings. :)

This all depends on how hot you're loading your shots, but typically you can see well more than two uses from a brass casing.

yea. that's why it's a lot of variables since everybody has different guns, calibers, grains, reloading process, etc.

you wanna play it safe? 1-2x. if you know what you're doing? 2+ then.

Wow, with the brass getting 5 or so reuses, you must really have to be diligent as far as keeping a record.

I agree. In fact, I would rather not mess with reloads at all. I remember hearing a story when I was 9 or 10 about a reload going bad and killing someone. I don't remember many of the detail and I don't know for sure if the story was even true. But it stuck with me.

I'm thinking a casing in revolver can stand up to abuse better than handgun since a revolver doesn't eject. 5x+ does make me nervous.... especially for handgun.

yea I'm not surprised. I hear it a bunch of times.

it could be anything - too much grain. weak casing. improper reloading process. Type I. etc. I stay away far far far from reloaded ammo if it's not done by a commercial business. fffffaaarrrr away.

couple years ago at the range, I needed more ammo and they offered to sell me dirt-cheap 9mm cuz they reloaded it themselves. I kindly declined :ugh: but my friend bought it anyway and it fouled his gun so bad that he coughed from filthy black powder. :ugh:

I'm doubting your ridiculous claim because it's ridiculous! I own guns and I've bought thousands of bullets from several different states - both store and online. Don't you think I would have heard of anything about black market for ammunition?

sorry to say but you're a liar. Drug, Inc? yea right. you are lying.

Drug Inc. is the shows about drug dealers and they bought everything, including guns and ammo from black market.

Not really, I'm not lie about those and the black market is exist for ammo, especially criminals are interested buy one.

If you can reuse the shells at the range, that would give you some material. I'm not sure if you need to make them completely new, but I'm sure there is going to be a percentage that you cannot reuse.
That's what I meant. It's getting harder to collect used shells. Some people hover like vultures waiting for the shells, and pick them up while still hot. Of course, if you tell them to leave your shells alone, they will respect that. Otherwise, they grab them up.

When I use my revolver, and TCS uses a shell catcher on his AR-15, there are no strays to retrieve. :giggle:

Black market is for selling items illegally. People can buy ammo legally, so why would they risk buying illegal ammo? Unless the illegal ammo is being sold at bargain prices or stolen (meaning real cheap), there would be no incentive for that.

There is other example about tobacco - you can buy legally from store, but the black market does exist for tobacco because of taxes.

Same concept for ammo as well - already happened in Canada.

The high sales of ammo is good for our country's economy and when the demand goes up, so they could build more ammo plants or hire more employees to make ammo.

I hope that happens.

According to this article (I read it), it doesn't say anything about law-abiding citizens using the black market for buying ammo. It mentions criminals having to use the black market for their guns and ammo, not because of taxes but because convicted felons aren't allowed to purchase them legally. As for the legal buyers, they just go to another county/state to buy ammo, legally.

Where have you been? This was news a few days after 12/14/12. (ammo shortages)

Foxrac you need to stop relying on TV shows for factual info. Ever hear of propaganda?

Those posting RE reloading... Good luck if you don't have a stockpile of primers. They're all going to the ammo manufacturers.

Glad I stocked up 2 yrs ago :)

People who would fail a background check for a firearm can still easily purchase ammo. Which kinda pokes a hole in the black market ammo theory.

As a gun owner, I'll agree to it, but not before law makers and politicians be required to pass a morality and ethics class and demonstrate logic and intelligence including passing the NRA safety course required by law....

Laura

Hello Laura...I love you.

Kidding, but I like how you think.

NY is requiring background check for ammo now - it means black market will going to rise in state of NY.
NY now requires ammo background check

The black market is strongly covered under real documentaries about gangs, that's not propaganda and those documentaries are originally from History.
