Connecticut school massacre

I heard that the mother took her sons to the shooting range where all of them enjoyed shooting practices. That means they loved guns.

IMO, it's dangerous to own guns in the house where a boy loves to play violent games on his computer. Possibly Adam loved to play those games since he was a loner.

Here's the quote from CNN

"Nancy Lanza was a gun collector and recently showed off a newly bought rifle to fellow Newtown resident Dan Holmes, who owns a landscaping business in the town."

Tell your children to not play Grand Theft Auto games.

sounds like a hate crime

All of the adults that got killed where women and the shooter killed his mother before going to the school. the shooter could of had some issues with women.
Maybe more details will be release to the public after the investigation is over.
The children where 6 and 7 years old.

I was reading about the history of school shootings. The first mass shooting by student, most of the shooting were actually by teachers, or lovers of the teachers, anyway it was in 1974......way before violent video games. That is not the cause, and is such a cop out.

Here's the thing, some people are crazy, or have in them the capacity to snap. That is the common denominator, not the methods of their destruction, but their state of minds. That is why we cannot predict or prevent occurrences like this. There will always be crazy people, and they can always cause chaos.

I'm just messing with CP.

The violent video games are protected by First Amendment, also US Supreme Court agreed with that.

Are we coming down to just saying that gun violence is to be expected and leave it at that? Can't do a thing?

~ Shrug ~

Frightened? Buy a gun.
Want to assert courage? Buy a gun.
Want to stand for what's right? Buy a gun.
Want to be patriotic? Buy a gun.
Want to have some fun? Buy a gun.

Mourn the loss and . . . Buy a gun.

No if there were no guns they'd still find a way. In 1927 the treasurer of a school killed his wife, burned down his house, and blew up his school. He killed 34 people and injured 58. No gun. Yesterday a man in China slashed 22 kids with a knife. No gun. You need to separate "gun violence" and wacked out people that have snapped. They're the problem. The have always been crazy people, there will always be crazy people. No ifs and or butts about it, so unless we start doing comprehensive psyche evaluations on every person in the world throughout their life (because who knows when the person is going to snap) and round them up and separate them from society, yes shit is always going to happen. People are the problem, not their methods of execution, no pun intended.

So, your answer is not "No," it is "Yes." We must acccept and do nothing. Except, we might . . buy a gun.

Here is something that we might do to limit the flow of guns moving into the hands of criminals:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms tell us that 1.7 million gun sales were blocked by background checks between 1994 and 2007. John Hopkins University estimates that 40% of all gun sales are through unlicensed gun dealers. Unlicensed gun dealers do not need to carry out background checks. So, that's well over 1 million gun sales that could have been blocked IF we did not allow unlicensed dealers at gun shows.

We might also increase the waiting period for a gun purchase from licensed dealers.

Only a few states have any waiting period, at all. Sometimes it is as short as 2 days for those that have that wait.

True, but the incidents we're talking about are not your typical "criminal". These are disturbed people that even if they didn't have access to a gun could act out in some violent way. The gun is not the problem, the people are the problem. Guns, no guns, as long as there are people, there will be crazy people too, and they will do heinous shit, because they're loopy.

We might also reinstate the federal assault weapons ban that this country had between 1994 and 2004.

It prohibited the manufacturing of certain semi-automatic weapons for civilian use.

I have a feeling, Ambrosia, that you are not saying that the answer is to "buy a gun."

But, expect that every time that we have this sort of thing happen - there is a spike in gun sales.

If guns were the answer, the US would be the safest place in the world.

Nope, not a gun owner, don't want to be a gun owner. I'm saying crazy people will do crazy shit, it doesn't matter if they have gun or not. The gun is not the problem, the people are the problem. That's what I've said, in 2 previous posts, no where did I say everyone should have a gun. In fact I said you need to separate incidences like this and "gun violence". You don't have to be a gun fanatic to see that the gun isn't not the source of the problem. In fact I pointed out another incident that occurred at a scholl yesterday. In China a man slashed 22 kids with a knife. No gun.

Gun control is not going to solve problem, instead creates lucrative black market. Gun is not always involve in mass killing, like 9-11 where no gun were even used yet mass killing occurs anyway. Some people out there knows how to make guns. It's not hard really. The problem is the human itself, if one gets pissed off or gone crazy, they will do whatever it takes regardless.

In Sweden or Switzerland where they all required bear assault rifle, the crime is far lower than here.

What ambrosia said is true, it's the human which is the source of problem not gun itself.

The societies are major problem in America, no matter about gun control or not.

First off, none of the children in China died from the attack. Some were quickly released from the hospital.

We can expect more and more lethal hand-held weapons in the US in the future.

Society is indeed the problem. Doing nothing is not the answer.

The murder rate in USA has went decline to lowest to 1960's level.

Who said doing nothing is the answer?

The problem is how we raise our society, after series of education shift, discipline shifts since 1970 seems to have negative consequences and apparently got worse. School seems no longer teaches values, and use harsh disciplines were history. Our schools are actually falling apart, and none of them really prepares global competitions. Too many spoiled lazy scumbags out there and nothing is done. That's the root problems that we have right now.
