Have anyone experience with bipolar?

I'm recently diagnosed with bipolar after years of misdiagnose because some of bipolar symptoms match to mine. At first with new psychiatrist, she thought that I'm possibly have schizoaffective and tried on new medicine but... turned out it wasn't work after 1 month so she had to rule it out but rather to say about bipolar. I'm not sure about what type of bipolar that I have one and will find out on this Friday.

I have both of depressive and manic episodes, I used to be depressive for weeks before changed to manic, more like hypomania. The mood changes over weeks or months. I'm currently in manic episode but it is better than depressive because depressive affect my life in almost big time.

I had mood stabilizer at once - Lactimal but not anymore due to rashes and I don't have any treatment right now after old mood medicine failed.

I've experienced with my ex-fiancee. If I'm wrong she had bipolar disorder or she may be Road Rage during light argue while she was driving with me and then, She blew up. She kicked me out of her car and drove away, twice. I walked to home about 5 miles. I said like That's it. I've enough with bitch and I'm done!

One man walked past my home with his girlfriend everyday. He uses to anger, temper over when I peek at his gf as I took smoking break outside my home due internet addict with my computers. He tried to start fight with me but, he avoid my security cameras. Police officers noticed my security camera tapes as He acted threatens at my cameras as he acted fake jacking off at my cameras as like he still jealously and he think I drool at his gf or something. He walked on street for life. He never drive his own car yet as he may be Road Rage or Bipolar disorder.

My old brother used to temper, bullying me and he can't stand with dumb and deaf do stupid way when I was kid. I made troubles, immature, picking on him and make up story as liar. His face turn red and temper all times. He fainted and took him to hospital. I don't know if he had bipolar disorder or diabetes or high blood pressure due my family never tell me what kind of his health problem. He is on mystery medicines for life.

Sorry I have not experience myself but around people who i am very close, it is very difficult. All i know is checking on food that can affect, check food that can affect on medicine, such as dont take medicine when any citrus drink that has acid to dissolve the medicine then it is no good, and go on. it is sort of stressful but.

sleep well, cut down on caffeeine, and control.

I dont know about the behavior therapy that offers, but i know it offers for ADHD.

hope things are going to work for you after you find out more about it.

It's not easy to handle with someone who is bipolar. I have one in my family. One tiny mistake that make her upset easy. Oy!

I don't have it, but I have a little experience with it online, on another another forum I have seen for over 13 years. There is an admin guy who has bipolar disorder, he is in charge of the forum.

That bipolar admin likes to get in arguments and doesn't listen to the forum rules of no provoking, foul languages, etc behavior. He gets episodes of anger or manic state, and posts a ton, often arguing with other members. Unfortunately, because of his power he's able to ban anyone for disagreeing with him in politics or any issues he doesn't like. A lot of people on the site are afraid of arguing to him because they know they will end up getting banned.

Violence isn't always a symptom of mania. I'm sorry that y'all dealt with people who were violent.

Regarding caffeinated beverages, some people I know with bipolar drank plenty of caffeine with no mental side effects. Others drank to overcome med side effects of drowsiness and constipation.

The meds alter the balances of neurotransmitters. That's why some people with
mental illnesses can tolerate caffene and some can't.

It sounds like bipolar and it seems like they are not on mood stabilizers or not diagnosed. I know some doctors are misdiagnosed or under diagnosed with other disorders but eventually diagnosed with bipolar, however you must tell a truth to psychologist or psychiatrist who do evaluation and any lies or miscommunication could lead to something is wrong. Unlike high blood pressure, there is no test that find a positive or negative for bipolar.

Yup, that's true about someone with bipolar can be hard to deal and the bipolar has own severity.

My bipolar tends to be between mild to moderate, depending on mood changes. I'm not interested to be violent person or use any recreational drugs.

Caffeine doesn't have any much severity with my mood but high caffeine made my IBS so more aggressive and headache so I have to be low on caffeine as possible.

That's correct about get sleep well and keep mood under control are important.

I cannot take any SSRI and SNRI medicines anymore because it caused manic goes feel like roller coaster, also terrible side effects. I tried Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro and Viibryd - all bad result.

Exactly, I had situation to my cousin as well. :aw:

The combined of therapy and mood stabilizer should help her to keep mood under control.

In bold, that's correct and my manic episode isn't violent, however SSRI medicines caused me to closer to became a violent person but cool off after discontinuation of SSRI treatment.

Rest of your post - good information. :thumb:

Previously, I had deal with few employees that who has bipolar at walmart. Making a small mistakes caused their mood goes crazy but not violent so they can't hold the jobs for long time.

For those who have BPD: What is the best way to convince someone that has all the symptoms of BPD but are in complete denial that anything is wrong with them?

2 of my co-workers' spouses have it and are difficult to deal with. Right now the co-workers are looking into divorcing them since they've exhausted all efforts to get the spouses the help they need.

foxrac, perhaps you could contact Hear Again to find out those BPD forums for support.

Actually, you can. However, (and this is a BIG however, ) you will need a mood stabilizer along with that SSNRI/SSRI. You are correct that an SSRI alone WILL activate a manic episode as you found out. Also, some psychiatrists who do prescribe SSRIs for depression in bipolar disorder, do so in smaller dosages (and NEVER by itself!). Hope this helps! :)

You are much more likely to convince someone in the depressive phase to get help than you are the manic phase. The reason is, some people who are manic LIKE their manias, because of the symptoms that presents. You can feel SUPER good. Feel super human. Feel more creative, ect, and these people feel that meds will take that feeling away. Unfortunately, in bipolar disorder, the person will almost always cycle out of the manic phase and crash into the depressive phase. And, the cycle will repeat itself....

Another thing, anxiety disorders often go hand and hand with bipolar disorder, so if the person is anxious, you may be able to get them help since they may feel like they are crawling out of their skin. It is very difficult dealing with a person with bipolar disorder; especially if their illness is particularly severe. I wish you luck!

It is possible for other patients with bipolar - depression episode but not for me.

My psychiatrist refuse to prescribe any SSRI/SNRI medicines to combine with other medicines because of terrible side effects, especially diarrhea and aggressive IBS symptoms, also not recommended by my GI specialist as well after complained about diarrhea and hemorrhoid. Imodium does work but not last longer and it does mess up my gut flora. It took about 2-3 weeks to recover after kick out of SSRI.

You're right. Other issues may preclude someone from being prescribed an SSRI. I just wanted to point out that it IS possible to take an SSRI/SSNRI for bipolar disorder if it's prescribed along with a mood stabilizer.

I hope you find the right med combination that'll help manage your symptoms.
