Safely and smart.

Hey guys,

I just bought a 2002 Suzuki Volusia yesterday which I got real good deal.. It's a beautiful bike look like Harley. Big gas tank with Speedometer on top of it (also have LCD screen for fuel level, odometer, and clock).. It have 805cc V-twin water cooled engine, 5 speed tranny, and shaft drive.
Rear swingarm have mono shock hidden in it, no worry about bruising my leg when getting on it. I went over to seller of this motorcycle and looked around and test drove motorcycle. Engine fires up quickly and ran smoothly and somewhat quiet and clutch are so easy to get bike going. Though it's 8 years old and It only have 8,000 miles on it. There are few minor damages which I expected and all are easily repaired. It have removable Mustang seat with sissy bar along with it for passenger.

I planned to bring it home but it rained that day. Tires on motorcycle are worn on rear but some thread on front. I planned to buy new tires.

I have a question to ask about replacement tires. I really want a good Cruiser tires that can handle wet road well and is reasonable priced. I looked through Metzeler. I wanted deep threaded one if possible. What do you recommend??

I posted pics for you to see my "new" Cruiser!

Catty

sweet bike, yo!

8 years and only 8,000 miles? huh... light rider he is!

about Metzeler - it's arguably the best you can get out there. My bike's got Metzeler Tourance (90% road, 10% dirt). Some people do use Metzeler rear and Bridgestone front cuz Metzeler is $$$. It's up to you. For your bike - Metzeler ME-880.

Another recommendation - Michelin Anakees (maybe). All tires I mentioned above are excellent road tires. great grips. can handle wet road. I've done dozens of rain ridings. The tires have solid grip.

Okkayyy. I have few friends who pretty young age like 18-25 and they have ATGATT and I saw many old farts are squid.

it's opposite in here. Many young people here are squid and many old farts are ATGATT (non-Harley guys)

About "old farts" you're referring to.... are they Harley riders?

Odd. Many young people are squid (thank god they are not my friend) in Chicago and many old farts are squid in QC and not all of them are Harley.

no not odd at all. It's pretty much same all over. Young Men + Sport Bike (like GSX-R, CBR, etc) = squids

these "young people" = mostly sport bikes, right?
these old farts = mostly Harley, yes?

do you know what squid means? a rider (regardless of age and bike) is wearing just tshirt, shorts, and sneakers (helmet or not).

I didn't know that.

In the military, the other services call sailors "squids."

Some bike riders here don't even wear t-shirts, and they wear flip-flops instead of shoes. Other than "stupid," what would you call them?

Stereotypes do exist and, sadly, sometimes the stereotypes are true. Remember, most young people don't have the same wisdom as older folks to make good decisions.

True.

Also, young single guys don't have families to worry about. Many young men become more careful about what they do when they think about the family for whom they are responsible.

Young reckless guys don't always live long enough to become old and wise.
