I collected SSA for 18 years not SSI nor SSDI. I worked short time and got pregnant so I stayed home and collected SSA. I was not qualied for SSI because of own home and I was not qualified for SSDI because I did not work long enough. Now I am off SSA for almost 5 years yeahhhhhh I am freeeeee and feel great. I had to pay big fine for medicare for many years, they took alike $200 out of SSA because I did not want medicare in first place when I first got SSA. Hope I will never go back on SSA till I reach 65.

i get $694/month plus health "benefits". the health care sucks though. like...bad. BUT... i'm grateful that I at least HAVE health care. A lot of Americans don't so im lucky.
Also, they wont let me work without putting my SSI/SSD on the line. I don't understand how they expect anyone to live off of under $700/mn but I feel like i shouldnt complain since a lot of people have it worse than me right now :/

What I mean is that with the CI movement, there is more pressure to put deaf children in oral only educational settings which can put deaf teachers out of jobs in the near future unless they have CIs or are oral themselves.

what is CI movement?

what is CI movement?

Cochlear Implant movement. Those who are for the CI's and nothing else. They think it is the end all and magical solution to a person's hearing loss. I'm not saying that all people who have CI's feel that way, it's just that there are some who think that a person who may be a candidate and chooses not to get one is only hampering their life.

I get $450 every month, that's $150 less than in 2006.

Me too, can't image less than $1k a month. I think 1200 a month is good minimum for comfortable living.

I am still getting $985 but it will go down staring in September since I get my Medicare then.

If you start getting access to Medicare then your income automatically drops, is that correct?

Yeah - if I take straight Medicare, Part A is no cost, Part B is $110.80 and the prescription Part D is a different amount depending on which plan you get. I can opt to not take Part B and go with a different plan which will cost more. They take the cost out of the check automatically.

oh... the people who feel that way should be understanding of people who chose NOT to get CI. it is a personal choice.

i would LOVE that. god i would be STOKED if i had that much a month! i have to rent my extra room out just to make ends meet and i always end up with... less that desirable people. :/

they automaticly put me on part B. IDK how, maybe my payee did it but the pay cut was like a stab in the chest. It's so hard to survive off the scraps they give. With state care, i didn't have to pay anything at all. Now because i've been on SSD "long enough" they start making me pay for the same exact coverage i got from the state! it's so dumb :(

They do automatically put you with Part A and Part B, but you have the option to change it. I got the paperwork last Friday and it doesn't become effective until 9/1/10.

I know a little because i have not keep up with medicare. However, i should mention about it so you all can ask your local SSA about medicare. Anyone of you who are on SS disability (SSD). The following 24 months, then the medicare part b will be put on automatically. Unless anyone of your family who have health insurance that you are under them then let SSA know and get a proper form to sign, not to choose part B. All I need you all to check with SSA about it. If anyone of you who does not have health insurance from your family like spouse and decide not to take medicare part B then the next year or two year or three year you change your mind and you want medicare part B BACK, then the costs will be higher than the regular cost. That's important for you all to ask them if you decide not to choose part B and ask them what happen to you in the future. SO it helps you guys to decide about taking medicare part B or not if you all don't have health insurance through spouses'.

Unless you all happen to be on SSI then, it depends on which states or age that medicare part b will be covered due to the low income resource.

that's all I can say for now. i need to re polish on my knowledges of this area. eh.

I am on my hubby's insurance, but the cost of it is so expensive and the deductible is sky-high. We were going to drop me from his policy to drop his cost by half and let me use the Medicare, but now, since he is changing jobs and will have better insurance at a lower cost, I will have to see. I think for now, I will plan on keeping it and check my options and see what I want to do after he gets his benefits at the new job.

I agree about the costs that is pretty high. Have you told your local SSA about it and find out if you drop out the medicare part b and go back to your hubby's insurance and then drop the insurance then go back to medicare part b. willit become higher more than the regular costs of the mediare part b? Just keep that in mind about the medicare b if you have already had part b then drop it then a few years later, then go back to part b, will it be higher or not. just be aware about it

*smh* Wow. That's unbelievable. So the Govt guts people on SSDI and others even more by taking their money of the income out to pay for access to medicare.

You will never get $3K for yourself in social benefits. It's not possible.

not for us but I wonder about those wealthy politicals who retired and collect SSA make over $3K a month? I remember watch on news one time and they collect higher than rest of population.
