For us, old timers

I still have my original Rubik's Cube. Refuse to let son use it and had to buy him one. I also have my pyramid one, but it is packed up. I could never do that one.

I have these little plastic flower disks from the sixties called - - - Deelie Bobbers!! I love those things.

Does anybody remember those space food snacks???? They came in peanut butter, chocolate and other flavors that I might not remember.

quirky  what was the clock? I didn't know of it...

Kristina that's cool that you still have the ORIGINAL one!

I remember those space snacks, I remember especially the ice cream!

Ugh, Mary Kay - like a cult without the Kool Aid. No way out - aughhhh!!!

I was born in 1957. Gee, I remember Kennedy. Wow. I miss doo wop bands, flat top hair on the cool guys, later on I loved Grace Slick, Black Sabbath and red light fire drills. lol

Perhaps you called it Chinese fire drills at the red lights? Driving around the square or down the strip, everyone except the driver gets out at the red light and switches cars. It was fun.

I really miss drive in movies.

What about Stretch Armstrong and the Big Jim Rescue Rig....

My GI Joes apparently stole the Rescue Rig from Big Jim and turned it into some sort of hippie van with my sisters Barbies

Gosh, I had homemade toys for the most part. I always wanted one of those barbie vehicles. had a couple of Barbies, and we would sew clothes for them and make them homes out of big boxes, glued pictures from magazines on the walls, work with Dad in the wood shop to build them furniture. I am blown away these days how many toys kids have, even my son, I had 2 Barbie dolls, he has hundreds of figurines and toys.

I remember taking old whiskey and wine boxes, making windows and doors in them, built stairs from the flaps of the boxes and then decorated with magazines, fabric and carpet and wallpaper samples. We made beds out of cigar boxes and made Barbie and Ken a swimming pool out of a dish tub that was cracked (plastic tape sealed). My Barbies had a 4 story house and mom and I made clothes and stuff. That was the best!! When my daughter came along, I would not buy the ones in the store. We made them for her as well, and her friends were so jealous. My brothers used the same principals and made themselves classic army type barracks and such.

I made "brass headboard" beds for my Barbies. Adult size shoe boxes were the perfect size base. I took wire coat hangers and unwound them. Then, I twisted the hanger into whatever design I wanted for the brass headboard. Then, I poked the loose ends thru the "head" of the box bed.

I also used large flat buttons for dinner plates, and the twist off caps of toothpaste tubes for drinking glasses for Barbie.

I crocheted slippers for them (still have the pattern I believe).

Old knit gloves--you can cut off the fingertips and make ski caps for Barbie and GI Joe.

A friend of mine had an uncle who was a furrier. He gave us little scraps of mink, rabbit, chinchilla, etc., for real fur stoles for our Barbies (not pc now, I know).

My mom sewed many outfits, including a bridal outfit, for my Barbies. She sewed little bitty snaps, buttons, beads, and rhinestones on the outfits.

Another friend's mother made a dress for Barbie from scraps of a dress that she made her teenage daughter for a party. She let me borrow the daughter's dress for my first dance. It was bright red with netting. I have a picture of me wearing the dress, and I still have Barbie's dress.

My original Barbies had the "bubble cut" (short) hairstyles. One was blonde, the other redhead.

I still have them. :)

Ah, memories!

I had a troll with white and black streaked hair (hmm, similar to mine now).

I remember lots of different outfits for trolls were available, especially the ones that represented various occupations (doctors and police) and interests (motorcycle riders).

There were tiny trolls you could get from vending machines, and huge ones.

I guess mine would have been considered an average-size one.

I had one regular troll with orange hair. I loved the little gumball machine ones.

Later my daughters had trolls too. But theirs were fancier with jewels in the belly button.

Oh you guys will be so proud of me!

I grew up wearing only sparkly lip gloss. There were times I had to resort to mixing Vaseline with a wee bit of sparkle! :giggle:

Early this week I went to The Body Shop, a staple growing up and still is a staple of mine, I asked about the Hi-Shine Lip Treatment. I grew up wearing this just like I grew up wearing Tigress, anyone remember this beautiful musky perfume from Faberge?

I asked about this and Body Shop just informed me they discontinued this!

The manager, oh the very beautiful lady.. she checked the back for me and found 7 of them!! She was willing to part with them for only $1.00 each!! I grabbed all 7 of them for $7.00 and found out the regular price is $13.00!! They still continue making it, just not the sparkly lip gloss kind.

I'm glad I have this and I am conserving it carefully after all I only have 7 and I plan to make sure I die with this lip gloss on my lips!!

I am so jealous!

I grew up very tomboyish!

Even if I had a Barbie, the first thing I chopped off would be her hair! :giggle:

Keep the unique set you have. If you could, take pictures. I am just so jealous, want to see pics.

in our case, there were three girls in my family and we have a huge family (6 aunts one uncle on my mom's side, and 2 aunts and 1 uncle on my dad's... plus lots of cousins) They all gave us barbies which totalled 30 or 40 dolls together. we did not want to throw or give a single one away.

we did that to couple of them.We wanted to give them a haircut. LOL Amazing how soon as we ruined their hair, we didn't want to play with them anymore.

:laugh2:

I always did that to my cousin's best Barbies.

My sisters and I grew up with no Barbies. My mom knew better than to buy us Barbies, she's seen us hacking off their hair & mutilate Barbie's faces, etc.

My cousin would hide her Barbies and give us her plastic ones! :eek3:

We always asked for scissors, safety pins and sewing pins.

Yes, we were sadistic and we made sure both Barbie and Ken were PC correct. We'd draw their bodies in. :giggle:

I'm laughing here because we'd shock our parents!
