Phonak Naida V UP

Phonak Naida V UP update

Hi!
Went to the audiologist for adjustments to get rid of that hollow/echo-y/compressed speech sounds in both calm situations and speech-in-noise situations. When the audiologist attached the hearing aid to the computer, she asked if I was hearing any differences. I kept responding negatively. She finally said it was time to call in a Phonak rep so that's our next step! When that will happen, I don't know. However, when the aid was put back into my ear the feedback and the volume was wayyyyy to loud and the hollow-y quality was much worse. She realized after about 45 minutes of trying to work with the software that the cable wasn't effectively attached to my hearing aid w/ the software!! Ugh . . what a waste of time. However, we both felt that it still would be best to have the Phonak rep. come into the office to see if optimal adjustments can be made to fit my needs.

I was given the I-Com today to play with and I have only made one 5 minute call to my Dad. It seems to work VERY well. However, I still can hear those hollow/echo-y/compressed sounds. If those qualities could be eliminated, I think I'd be sold w/ the Phonak along w/ the I-Com.

I did find it interesting when the audiologist mentioned with complete confidence, "I can definitely work with Siemen's software and program the hearing aid comparable to the analog!" That might be the next step if the Phonak Naida's aren't up to my standards. I'm still having difficulty believing that the Phonak software isn't programmable to make it comparable to my old analog (and more) especially when I have 1 year old analog Phonak aids!

The other issue I had difficulty was when I mentioned that I am not always able to hear my husband calling me when he's only 4 feet away. He's not yelling or anything but with my analogs, I was able to hear him immediately.
The audiologist confirmed that she couldn't increase soft sounds (i.e. my husband's low voice) without decreasing the higher frequencies. That is what Phonak's software's issues include. It is a compression issue and the lack of number of channels available make it difficult to maneuver the fine tunes within the software." The brightness/clarity is lacking and that's what I am looking for.

I realize some of my posts might be redundant. However, I wanted to put out the latest update. Feedback from Naida users (esp. Leo!) are welcome!

Leo, I realize you mentioned that I could PM you. I'm embarrassed to say but I am not sure how to PM? So, I'm just posting my responses in general in hopes you'll respond. I also did some searching w/ the website you mentioned and didn't find much too much help there. Maybe I missed something? I keep forgetting to ask the audiologist for a print out of the software's chart but, she does have it saved. I normally follow things through but, this time I really have no excuse for not doing so.

Thanks!

I'm back and online....sent you something quick so you can see what I meant on PM, meaning "private message". You can access that in the upper right hand under your login....

Ok, no problem...private messages were not allowed to be sent to you.....gues that's checked..

Wendy,

I'm glad you now have a Phonak rep to come and visit you....I have this happening this coming Tuesday morning. This will be the 6th time (I think) my audi had Phonak intervention.

My issue is the FM transmitter/Soundflow issue, meaning FM seems to be activating in automatic mode, but I have no transmitter on. Hopefully that gets resolved then....

You can also ask your audi if she can send your hard copy by email. There is a setup on the software that can be used to send configurations to email addresses, but it's not automatically setup, depends if the audi has an email address to hook it to.

I do not know what you meant by having issues with increasing lows (bass) and reducing the highs. I do not see an issue with that one....I can increase the lows and the highs, there is ample channels to do it....but you have to add the extra channels in (fine tuning), at least that's what I have seen in the iPFG software. Your audi must have the basic setup.....

Wendy,

What website are you speaking of??

Thanks for the open Thread

I hope to pick-up my iCom on Monday and will try to see if I can set it up myself to connect with my cell phone. I have an a apointment with my audi Sept 1stas a back-up. All the open cross talk really helps, thanks to everyone for sharing.

I got my I-Com yesterday and I loved it when I could get it to work! However, as of this evening, I can't get it to work and I don't know what I am doing wrong. Very frustrating.

Hi Wendy,

I hope you have success so you can help me next week!

well i just got the Phonak Naida V UP on monday this week. I tried it, and it seems to work very well for me. I can actualy hear the difference in the sounds. With the naida, it worked really good for me especially in band. i had the Phonak MicroPower V and it didn't help me at all during band season. But with the Naida, i'm saying some pretty good things about it. I can almost not have to lip read, but i might have to once in awhile. I can hear the difference in the notes on the marimba pretty good. but i have to get used to it since it sounds really diffrent and have to memorize what it sounds like. when i first started wearing the naida, i heard a humming sound, and they said it was the air conditioning. and i never heard that before. which was pretty intresting but also annoying to hear. I'm pretty happy with the naida so far.

By the way, the only problem I have currently is the EasyFM is causing my aids to make beeping noises when I talk loudly and suddenly, or listen to someone do the same. My FM transmitter was never on when it happens. Anybody out there that had the same situation with Phonak aids??

Well, I didn't get too far with getting my FM adjusted today by Phonak.....the right FM receiver all of a sudden decided not to work...so that became the issue and I now have to wait for Phonak to repair/replace it and send it back....then I have to deal with wondering why the beeps are happening again. hopefully it gets repaired in a couple of weeks.....not too happy hearing beeps while chatting with others, especially if I or others decide to talk louder.

Phonak Naida V UP update

Hi Wendy,

I hope you have success so you can help me next week!

I had to return to the audiologist on Monday because the I-com wasn't making any connections with my Naida hearing aid. After a good 50 minutes of working on the aid and trying to get it to connect w/ the cell phone, I-com and aid, it was determined that there was a faulty 'link' in the hearing aid. The audiologist has taken the hearing aid w/ the I-com to be sent for possible repairs/checks. I will have them back on September 2nd in the afternoon. I will make another post after I play around more w/ the Naida and the I-Com.

With the hearing aid itself (Naida V UP), I was still not getting the clarity I typically get with my Phonak analog (Superfront). This is an area that I am still looking into getting resolved. It seems like other Naida V UP users have gotten this quality eliminated. However, my audiologists has not been successful in getting rid of the hollow/mild echo/compressed sounds that I have been hearing even with the 7 visits I have made to the audiologist in the last 6 weeks.:(

I feel for you!! I had one of my FM receivers returned to shop for repair/ replace, that stopped me from having my FM glitch taken care of.....hopefully I'll have it fixed in a week or so...

Sorry Wendy for all the problems your having. I got the iCom to connect to the cell Bluetooth, but I guess the audi has to do something with the HA to see the iCom. I have my apointment Tue the 1st to find out.

Yes, the iCom needs to be added and activated to connect to the aids via the iPFG software that the audi uses to configure your aids....

Geez .. . I wish I had watched to see if the audiologist had specifically done that. We were playing w/ the cell phone and the I-Com. She had the software up but I don't recall the audiologist making any activations w/ the hearing aid. I did ask if the hearing aid should automatically activate once the I-com is connected. The audiologist confirmed this. I'll never know now if she attempted to activate the hearing aid via the software. Sigh . . .

Tks

 Thanks for the info. BTY if anyone out there needs to buy the iCom I'll be happy to share the online store that sent mine. I only had to pay $295 delivered!

Hi Sirena, sorry this reply took so long. I just saw that I had a message . . . .

My HA are supplied by the Veterans Administration here in California. I had to buy the iCom. I've had the IX's about a month and love them, but they do need programming attention. I go back next week to get the iCom connected and maybe get a remote control for the programs. As to my hearing loss, as I read the post here, I'm a very lucky guy as it is poor but not as bad as most. I lost it while being a helicopter pilot in Viet Nam way back in 1967. It has progressively gotten worse over the years. I have a chart that I’d be happy to scan and send to you if you like. Good luck with yours, and yes they are expensive!

I rechecked the iPFG software I do have, yes, you have to "group" the iCom (with serial #) to your aids in order for them to connect properly, it can be accessed by the End Fitting-Final/Save portion of the software......

Figures! I completely thought it was 'automatic' in the sense that nothing needed to be done w/ the hearing aid. Still, I am not sure if the audiologist tried that. Even if I asked, I am not sure the audiologist would tell me that wasn't done because of lack of knowledge or maybe it was done and I didn't see it. At any rate, I'll keep you posted when I get the Naida back.

Help Please

How and where do I download the iPFG software? And what can I do with it? Thanks in advance . . . . . . :aw:

Phonak hearing systems - Software Download

You can download and install it, but unless you have the iCube or HiPro, it's useless for configuring your aids. The idea is to use it as a tool to help give your audiologist some correct information, so they can adjust your aids properly.....
