Unusual Thrift store finds

Me either !!! A garage sale will do, thank you very much :)

Agreed! This time of year, I have enough problem keeping my muddy footprints out of the house, much less a bunch of strangers.:giggle:

I have seen indoor yard sales as well.

Most of them are "moving sales"

Or the ones that are selling furniture. They do not want to have to haul them outside and inside. So the ones that are interested in buying are invited inside.

Speaking of thrift stores...I'm going to try find a digital camera today for reasonable price. I have charged up the batteries so I can test it before I buy it.

Cool.

Sometimes you can find a good camera at your local Pawn Shops as well. It is my hubby's favorite thrift store! :giggle: He finds all kinds of good tools there, for half or less of what it is worth.

I often go there to seek games for my kids Wii there and DVD movies. A lot cheaper than buying them new.

Sometimes local pawn shop charge too much for it, but I'll double check to be sure. :)

Compare the prices with a new one. You usually get a good deal. They usually sell it for half of what it is worth.

Still a money saver.

Come back and show it to us if you get a good one. And brag about the price!

I think some items from the thrift stores have character. I bought patio furniture from the thrift store..it just needs some TLC.

Yes I see lots of things like new. People remodel and just give away good stuff.

I have met some people that despise thrift stores because, :Ohno: It is used!!!

I have told that person you buy it new and use it once. It becomes a used item. So it doesn't matter if it is used or new.

Because once I buy something... Even items that needs TLC. It is NEW to me! :)

I went to a thrift store in an upscale town (Bethesda, MD) and found $700 shoes for $30 which were in great condition. Bought them!

I agree. I am kind of an expert penny pincher. Last week I saw a Donna Karan bags with tags still on.

I just left it for some kid who will get a thrill out of owning a designer bag, but there is lots of neat stuff out there.

I have seen people do that too. Leaving the price tags on their items! Just to show people how much they spent!

Like I said today. I went yard selling today bought my daughter two pairs of "Old Navy" shorts in new conditions. For only a buck a piece. $2.00 total!

If I would have bought them new! I probably would have paid considerably more than that!

I rather to brag about how much money I saved, than to brag about how much I spent.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Me too! I think it may be one of my more annoying habits it real life. I do brag about that.

Edit to say I brag about how much saved!

A long time ago, I and my wife were interested in crystal salt dips and related table crystals like knife rests and at one point, we had some 75 designs...all different.

Also first edition Zane Grey books.

Anyone here into the above?

My husband does salt cellars and salt spoons. I think that is what you call salt dip?

Also he likes butter pats, which are tiny plates. Buffalo china specifically.

That is truly a brag worthy purchase!

I think maybe the two words are used interchangeably. Funny, tho, out of all the 75 different individual salt cellars we had, we only had one complete set because they are rarer: Set of 8 cellars/dips, a master cellar and a tiny sterling silver spoon to complete the set.

My in-laws just celebrated 60 years of marriage and we managed to hunt down a 1930's sterling silver set of two each with their own spoon and in a special made velvet box.

They were really thrilled. My father-in-law was a jeweler so he really loves those types of things.

And your set sounds impressive. I don't think I have seen a master salt cellar. Unless I did not know what I was looking at.

I have a two crystal wine glasses if that counts. Even gives a ringing tone when you rub the rim of the glass.

They were given as a wedding present.
