You are welcome. It means American Sign Language. I think I misunderstood your studies at AIB.

Okay, I'm sorry. Although, you have no right to have started attacking me at the beginning of all of this. I ask one question and everything is blown out of proportion. I just want to learn about this. I know it's hard for me to come out asking these questions in the beginning of relationships, but I just thought you'd be willing to share. Obviously not. Start over? or have I ruined it?

I thought you were in a program to work with deaf, but now assume not as ASL would probably be something you know about.

See, here's the problem. I am not being rude to you. You, however, have been rude to the deaf community. And no, you haven't been living in that world for any length of time. In fact, you haven't even visited it. I'm trying to tell you that you have gotten off on the wrong foot. But since you seem to be intent on continuing in the same way, I might remind you that you aren't getting responses from the deaf people on this forum for a reason. You try to figure it out.

I just didn't know the abbreviation. I'm right now studying at AIB to either caption or do CART work. I just learned the alphabet in sign language... I don't know much, but I'm learning and I think that's better than nothing.

I see that. What is the course you are in right now that is on deaf studies?

I have two hearing adult children by the way, and it never bothered me.

Can I get your first name, please? I honestly looked through my messages, and I should have been more careful with the way I said things. I don't know how else to ask questions, and without some kind of help, I'm not going to figure it out. There's probably many CART providers that get on here and fail just as I do. They probably often never come back. idk But I think that giving up is just ridiculous, so I'm going to be persistent and try to get to know whoever wants to talk to me after this. Or maybe I could settle with doing this as my presentation to class and how not to fail, as I did.

The class I'm in right now is called Principles of Captioning. It just slightly hits base with everything that we will encounter as being a captioner/CART provider. For the past couple of weeks we've been studying deaf-culture, cochlear implants, the causes of being deaf... My assignment from my teacher was to find challenges/obstacles that the deaf face. I'm guessing I shouldn't use those words, but I don't know what other words to use. I'm doing research in my book, and it said that parents who are deaf are happy to hear they have a deaf child, and if they see they have a hearing child it's the same "sadness" as if when a hearing couple has a deaf child. Correct or incorrect?

Sounds like it may be incorrect. Mind telling me why it didn't bother you?

Well for one thing, I just would want healthy children. There is really no advantage to being deaf.

If I make any more mistakes, please point them out directly. I don't want to guess. I'd probably guess wrong. I'd like for this to be a good experience.

It will be fine. I am leaving for Starbucks, but will be back. Keep asking and maybe someone else will answer a few while I am gone.

Yeah, that's great. Yesterday, I woudn't have been able to say the same. Do you feel there's any disadvantage?

Geez. A person that actually doesn't know about deafness. What is wrong with that???

I thought we were all suppose to help spread the "Deaf Awareness"

Seems like the OP is getting a hard lesson. (very unnecessary one I may add)

Yes I think there is a lot of disadvantage. Earnings of deaf people is not on a par with hearing.

Spending related to deafness can be pretty high. My husband and I go through quite a few hearing aid batteries between the two of us. And then there is the cost periodically to replace the aids themselves.

My location is a mystery, and for my job I am a pet sitter.

Must now watch CSI and Eleventh Hour. Later.

Hi Bottesini,
not sure how to start a new thread <am not tech-savvy> but I read you pet-sit - I've done that too. Right now I am applying for a shelter job.

Good luck. Animals are one of the main joys in my life. All charitable contributions that I am able to make go to my local shelter.
