Man Ties Record For Biggest Largemouth Bass
Man Ties Record For Biggest Largemouth Bass - CBS News

DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A man was being credited with tying the 77-year-old world record for catching the biggest largemouth bass. The International Game Fish Association announced Friday that it had confirmed the 22-pound, 4-ounce fish caught by Manabu Kurita. The Florida-based group said Kurita caught the fish July 2 on Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake.

Kurita's fish tied the record of George Perry, who caught his bass on Georgia's Montgomery Lake on June 2, 1932.

Kurita used 25-pound test line and a live blue gill as bait.

Holy Moly

Think he's gonna sell the skin/hide of that bass and the buyer will have it stuffed? Could be worth a fortune! Id sell some of the meat for like $50 a pound!

Wrong.

That bass is already worth somewhere between $10,000,000 and $15,000,000

Yep, plus the Japanese are really getting into American Bass Fishing. There are a handful of Japanese anglers on the B.A.S.S. Elite Circuit. You should have seen Lake Dardanelle when that tournament came here. There was the American crowd, then there was the Japanese crowd. They didnt know much English but they knew exactly what was going on by reading the numbers and place standings on the leaderboard. They are very enthusiastic about it, so this record doesn't surprise me a lot.

My brother is stationed in Japan and probably has heard of this. Will show him since he is a fisher himself.
