Can you believe GM's claim that the Chevy Volt would do 230 mpg based on the newly released EPA measurement procedures for plug-in hybrids?

The rating is based on methodology drafted by the Environmental Protection Agency, and most other automakers have not revealed the mileage for the electric cars. Nissan, however, announced last week that its all-electric vehicle, the Leaf, which comes out in late 2010, would get 367 m.p.g., using the same E.P.A. standards.

Figures for highway driving and combined city and highway use have not been completed for the Volt, but G.M.’s chief executive, Fritz Henderson, told reporters and analysts at a briefing that the car is expected to get more than 100 miles a gallon in combined city and highway driving.

230 mpg yeah yeah yeah but 40 miles on battery alone every full charge is gonna cost maybe like $1 to $3 for every 100 miles driving. At 40,000 a pop I dont think I can afford a Volt....

Let's wait and see what's going on once the EPA gets their hands on a Volt to test the mpg claim from GM....
 
Interesting, GM had their first electric vehicles EV1 years back, it lasted for a while til GM ordered all of them destroyed.

This one seem new and improved... let's see what happens when it gets put on the streets.
 
Yeah I heard about GM and the EV1 fuck up. That did piss a LOT of people who had driven the EV1 and fell in love with it only to have GM pull the rug from under them.

So sad is only a handful of EV1's are still alive and one of the cars is in the Smithsonian.

I own a chevy and a Chrysler and honestly I like both, I don't believe Chevy's Hybrid will work out. Although there is a lot I like about Chevy I don't see Chevy and new technology as as one in the same. We have a Pontatic as work classic example electrical problems all the time. Proof that GM and advanced technologies aren't the same, however I like Chevy's for how simple they are easy to fix and cheap parts. Plus they got a nice ride!
 
I don't think it will be a good seller because it's $40k and plus people saw that GM took the EVI from the customers back then....that is a HUGE mistake which will hurt the sales.
 
230 mpg? Too much, too late, in my opinion. They had years and years of planning, and with the economy dashed, they slap our silly faces. Dear me.

Remmy that it's possible since that they use "lawnmower" engine to keep battery charged which is why 200+ mpg. It had been around for long time and NONE of Big 3 would admit it's possible. It's just the greed all around. I've heard this for long time.

There are another type of electric car that have generator on wheel so while driving, it feeds power back to the battery and it'll runs "forever" unless you had to stop for bathroom.

Oil co are just plain greedy we know that. Let's hope GM won't kill Volt program!!

It all depends. If upper class people willing to blow $$'s on Volt, If it become "popular" then they'll reduce price while mass producing. Also they might have another electric car with cheaper parts for general public. Customers who buy cheap electric car might have to buy aftermarket parts to make car runs longer or more powerful.

Or wait few years or so when owner sell the Volt and it'll be alot cheaper cuz it's used. Electric car are much easier to maintain than gasoline car. But it might not be cheap because of batteries need to be replaced. Lead Acid battery last up to 5 years top. Who knows by the time when Used Volt are sold, I'm sure there are newer technology replaces Lead Acid batteries.

Wonder if I have 3 Samonan friends that weights about 700LBS plus a driver, hops in a Chevy Volt, will it gets 230 MPG? BS. They need the real full loaded includes 4 people in a Volt to get right MPG and to see how can
the Volt stand a long trip without breakdown. Or EV1 repeat ?

Well....Toyota Prius was cheaper...now it's gotten more expensive now. Does that look like it will become cheaper as it get more popular? I don't think that will happen. I think Toyota Prius is better than the Chevy Volt anyway. 40 miles on electric charge is not going to change the world.

If u and 3 of ur Samoan friends hopped into the Volt, the suspension would just pretty much hit the ground before the damn car can even roll a yard...

Yup, wait 5 years later. They might change. I agree Prius is cheaper because it's hybrid. You can easily convert Prius into large 220/120vac generator if your home had power outage. Prius use Inverter. That's one big advantage.

Yeah....that's the neat thing about Prius is a "built in generator feature" :)

The Toyota Prius is 276 volts. You must wear safety gloves to play around.

Sad, I need L-1 certified master tech then I can take hybrid class.
