Hello, I am an ASL 2 student learning about ASL variation. I have learned that several factors cause variation – age, gender, race, and region. I am looking at how different people sign strawberry. I will be presenting the information i collect to my class. If you feel comfortable, please take this survey.

1. What's your gender?

2. What age range do you fall in?

a) 15-18
b) 19-25
c) 26-31
d) 32-40
e) 50-60
f) 60 and older

3. What's your racial background

a) White(non Hispanic)
b) African American
c) Native Hawaiian
d) American Indian/ Alaskan native

4. In what region do you live?

a) Northeast
b) Southeast
c) Midwest
d) Southwest

5. How do you sign strawberry?

a) HEART
b) F handshape on jaw line then push out with palm facing out
c) RED + F handshape on nose (like FOX)
d) BERRY (please specify if you sign it on your pinky or index finger)
e) RED + sign RED again (with thumb)
f) Other

Mines 'B" right next to mouth. sign like french but sign it down like french toast.

From East coast and in late 40s. MY OPINION, it has nothing to do with color due to based on which year and depends on which school you attended that makes difference for the DIVERSED kids and AGE GROUP to sign.

For a gender, it does not matter either. ha.
 
West Coast and Midwest in my early 30s. Ive seen people use option B along with several different signs not listed.

Strawberry=Sign "red" and the right thumb brushes lips in same way.

I use option B.

it's quite hard to describe how others signed strawberry, because I don't really remember exactly how to describe it.

I have always use D to sign Strawberry. I guess I use the sign to twist around on my right index (pointer finger) finger which was from Ameslan which is related to ASL. This is the way I sign and still use it.

The twisting around my right pinky finger mean that this sign is Cherry, not Berry.
