I was reading something that REALLY spoke to me!
"Bilingualism is an all inclusive approach, leaving no room for failures! yet, we are constantly being framed as the ones who refuse to give parents "choices," who are militants, who are advocating for an "ASL only" route (there was never an ASL-only route, ever in the history of Deaf education), and all the negative labels. In contrast, the oral advocates are framed as the ones who are giving the parents choice while the oral route is nowhere close to being inclusive and is actually a route of taking risks and chances for most deaf babies." AMEN!!!!! I agree with this 100%. In addition, oral only basicly trains dhh kids to be DEPENDENT on their hearing aids/CIs. They cannot function without them. It's also their weakest sense. Yes, pursue speech training....But imagine if hearing children were educated on a "concentrate on fixing the weakest sense" approach. Dhh kids deserve a full toolbox, and many options
