allAfrica.com: Zimbabwe: Mother, Deaf Son Dupe Homeseeker (Page 1 of 1)

A 70-YEAR-OLD woman and her deaf son appeared in court for allegedly conning a desperate homeseeker of more than $1 million.

Jasmine Kufakunesu and Peter Kufakunesu (29) were granted $20 000 bail each, when they appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mrs Monalisa Ushe.

They were also ordered to reside at their given address until the case is finalised. Mrs Ushe also ordered the two not to interfere with State witnesses.

Prosecutor Mr Nyambo Viera said some time in July last year Jasmine approached the unnamed homeseeker intending to sell her house.

The homeseeker, the State alleges, expressed her desire to buy the house and agreed to pay $1,2 million.

Mr Viera alleged that Jasmine told the homeseeker that the house could not be sold without the signature of her son Peter who at that time was in remand prison.

The court heard that Jasmine asked for assistance for the release of Peter so that he could sign the documents.

The State alleges that the unsuspecting homeseeker then paid $1,2 million for the house and all necessary papers that were to be used in changing the ownership from Jasmine to the homeseeker's.

Peter -- who is employed by Chitungwiza Municipality -- facilitated the second sale of the house with the full knowledge that the house had already been sold to one Brown Ndlovu.

As a result, the homeseeker was defrauded of $1,2 million and nothing was recovered.
