Yellow Fog Lamps?

I'm thinking about adding yellow fog lights to my '11 Sienna. I have researched to see if CA allow yellow OEM fog lights, and it is ALLOWED.

Now, my question is; is it easy to install? Would you rather clear white fog lights or yellow fog lights? Opinions are much appreciated. :D

I'd love to do the self-install, but problem is I'm not so sure which wire from fog lamps connect to battery. The auto stereo shop said it cost me $300-400 to do the installation labor. :sure:
 
I can install fog lights in my Honda CR-V but it s difficult to be install wiring. You may read how to install it online at first before buying. Easy or hard to install??

If there arent any wires ready in place, you usually have to run one to the relay box. (at least that is what I would do) Then add a switch, run that wire back to the relay and when you want it on, flick the switch.
 
Yellow Fog Lamps

Hmm. When I bought my Mazda in 2002 it came with yellow fog lamps??
I like them and so they remain. They are a help, but Oh man do I hate it whenI am hit with those tiny Bright Blue lights. I dont know what they are or who would use them..they just blind me....smile...Hope everyone stays warm and well...Peace to you all....:wave:
 
Fog lights should be used only when it's foggy enough that you cannot see well. Did you know that it's more dangerous to drive with the fog lights on when there is no fog? The glare itself from the fog lights create a more dangerous situation. It's an illusion, not many people are familiar with this. In certain weather conditions, you need to be careful. For example, if it's raining or wet on the road, don't use the fog lights if there are drivers in front of you. The reflection in the water on the road can be disruptive to the other drivers.

What I'm saying is, fog lights are unnecessary and useless in all driving situations except if there's fog.

Don't bother with Xenon or HID bulbs. Tungsten-halogen bulbs is the way to go. Make sure they aren't blue though. Make sure they are of great quality, many fog lights you buy on the market are useless.

Agree. Xenon/HID bulbs are popular.

Good Point. I really like Xenon or HID bulbs, Brighten than standard headlights. I wish to replace them in my SUV.
 
I agreed with this one, it sucks, I won't let it install on my truck! I got the factory installed Fog lights, they are just white. Better than Yellow.

I usually turned it off and will turn on when really need it. I rarely touch my headlight switch with fog because it is now set automatically. Man! I love automatic.

I wouldn't convert the headlamps to HID if I were you. It's not safe.

HID melt the housing case and/or cause electrical fire because the wires couldn't handle the amount of electricity going thru.

it's what I read when I wanted to upgrade my motorcycle headlight but it applies same to cars too.

I got my HID kit from VME. It is safe and trustworthy. Highly recommended by many. DDTuning is fine too.

My Subaru came with white fog light factory. So I replaced the white bulb with yellow bulb and I noticed yellow fog light is better than white fog light thru HEAVY fog on the road.
 
I used to have yellow fog lamps for my old 1967 DJ-5 (formerly Postal Jeep) back in 1984. I installed it and it wasn't hard to do. Yellow fog lamp does cut through fog well and able to see further in darkness. I agree with Banjo that it's not safe. I get some driver in front of me flashing headlight and even couple of encounters with upset driver telling me to turn off damn foglamps. I was young back then and didn't care tho.

Kansas allows foglamps only if its foggy out. But I left it on when it get dark along with headlights.

Right now, my Durango and Jeep Liberty have factory installed foglamps and it's white. No one complained when I left it on.. It's stark contract to back in 1984 when I had Jeep with foglamp. IMHO, the old Jeep bumper is higher than Durango and Jeep Liberty and foglamp were on top of bumper instead of bottom. Which is why I blinded drivers back then but now both of my trucks foglamps are lower to ground and it's safe to leave it on. I've seen many driver leave foglamps on anyway so I'm not alone. :giggle:

Also I used to have foglamps under 1977 Toyota Corolla, It was a narrow rectangular yellow foglamps. I installed wiring as well. The Relay and Switch was cheap quality, it got hot and some point it melted the switch. I changed the switch and relay to better quality.. I put it under the bumper. No one complained when I had foglamps on. I had it for few months until I drove over the dip of parking lot. It crushed both foglamp :eek3: . Oh well I took it out and threw it away.

IMHO, Yellow foglamps are better than white. It doesn't reflect on fog than white one.

I used to have a '87 Honda Civic with foglights....It is somewhat difficult because you have to run the wires thru the bumper and to the firewall and install a switch in the interior dashboard.
 
same here. I used fog lamps as i used to drive alot in buffulo at night where it gets foggy alot. those cheap relays and switches that comes with fog lamps are crap and got hot. Attach white to ground and black to power source. If you do it yourself, you can keep it simple, just upgrade the thickness of wire. use 12 gauge instead of those 18 gauge that comes as package. I wouldnt bother with relay- I would connect white wire to frame of your car somewhere and connect red/black to the battery and make sure there is a fuse in the on that power wire . I say screw the switching relay from headlight to the fog only. you can do that yourself with headlight switch by switching to running lamps.
Just be sure you angle the fog lamps down low but goes out about 15 ft from car.

False. This only applies to the old HID setup's where people would hack the wiring to install OEM ballasts from other cars into their cars. Now you can buy OEM grade HID ballasts that plug into the existing bulb socket, and runs an alternate power wire directly from the battery to an inline relay, and then to ballasts.

And to whomever had said that HID bulbs melt lenses is wrong. I work on cars alot, and have never seen HID bulbs melt an actual headlight lense or housing.

To the OP if you want yellow fogs, just buy yellow bulbs. It will be much cheaper, and if you dont like the look you wont be out hundreds of dollars. You HOWEVER shouldnt need any extra light as your existing headlights have projectors (great output). Ive retro'd projectors into my headlights and the output is AMAZING.
