GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - An eight-year-old Colorado boy is being called a hero for saving himself and his grandmother on a busy Interstate highway.

Dilon Earl of Fruita and his grandmother were traveling on I-70 at about 75mph near Grand Junction Sunday when Earl's grandmother had a seizure.

The young boy sprang into action steering the car to the middle of the road while hitting the brakes. Another driver who saw what happened called 911.

"The eight-year-old boy took over control of the vehicle, and brought it to a successful stop on the interstate," said Duncan Brown of the Grand Junction Fire Dept.

"She was having a seizure," Dilon said. "I put on the brakes, and then people came to help, and then someone called 911." Emergency personnel said the boy's quick and competent reaction is why he and his grandmother came out of the ordeal okay. "Just surprising, you know, that he was all there and ready to do that just like that at a drop of a dime," Dilon's father, Justin Earl said.

Dilon's brother said, "He should realize that he's a real hero. You saved a lot of people's lives, Dilon, that's what you need to realize."

Everyone is very proud of what Dilon did, and he feels good about how the situation ended. He said he's just glad he and his grandmother are alive.
