Destined for gold
WWE: TV Shows > Unforgiven > Matches > Match Results
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Many thought that Batista wasn’t even going to make it to Unforgiven. After The Great Khali crushed his skull on SmackDown just two days ago, it appeared as though The Animal would need a minor miracle to make it to the FedEx Forum. But somehow, Batista found it within himself to not only compete, but to overcome the odds and capture the World Heavyweight Championship by winning the Triple Threat Match with The Great Khali and Rey Mysterio.
Batista had been looking to regain the championship he lost at WrestleMania 23. After epic struggles over that period of time with Undertaker, Edge and The Great Khali, Batista showed his resilience and determination to once again become champion. The Animal took advantage after his friend Mysterio delivered a 619 to Khali, as he picked up Rey and Batista Bombed him. Batista then somehow lifted The Great Khali off his feet and viciously spinebusted him to get the victory, and the gold. Even after being decimated time and time again on SmackDown by the vicious Khali Vise Grip, The Animal would not quit. He had vowed since losing the title to regain it, and after battles in the ring with the abovementioned Superstars in Steel Cage Matches, a Last Man Standing Match and a Last Chance Match, he has finally done it.
The imposing force of The Great Khali and the presence of his friend Rey Mysterio in the match did not sidetrack Batista – who seemed destined to once again wear gold. Initially, The Animal wasn’t even supposed to be part of the match, but after the Punjab Giant attacked and bloodied Rey Mysterio two weeks ago on SmackDown, General Manager Theodore Long added him to the contest.
In a way, Khali’s aggressive nature actually led to his losing the World Heavyweight Championship. Intent on incapacitating Mysterio before the match, it was the vicious attack two weeks ago that opened the door for Batista, an opportunity Batista gladly accepted. He had watched so many chances to regain the title slip through his fingers – including a controversial loss in a Last Chance Match against then champion Edge. But after Edge was forced to relinquish the title due to injury, Batista’s hopes returned. So did The Animal’s rage.
Never taking his eyes off SmackDown’s richest prize, Batista did not falter, did not fall. The Animal persevered through all the odds and has come out shining with the World Heavyweight Championship back around his waist.
im so HAPPPY for Batista to won that WHC belts!
