WV School for the Deaf holding statewide conference in October - The Herald Dispatch

The West Virginia School for the Deaf is hosting a conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at their campus in Romney.

The conference will focus on cochlear implants, and include an overview of current implantable technology for deaf consumers and facilitating listening skills and spoken language for implant users.

The conference will also include a mini-conference, “What’s Next? Life After High School.” It will focus on transitioning from high school to the workplace or to college. Topics will include filling out a resume, interview skills and financial information.

A second mini-conference also will take place. It will focus on effective nonverbal communication without vision and seeing-eye dogs. This will include a guest speaker from Seeing Eye, a guide dog school in New Jersey.

All three conferences are free, and transportation will be provided from Charleston on Thursday, Oct. 16, with stops on the way to Romney. Return travel will depart campus at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Meals and lodging will be provided on campus.

The deadline to register is Tuesday, Sept. 30. For more information or to register, call 304-822-4837, 304-822-4883 or 304-822-4872.
