I'm wondering if anyone knows of any publishers or agents that deal with deaf writers?

I've been writing for many years, now...and I would love to get some of my work read and possibly published. I deal with mostly fiction. What's the point in writing well if you can't share it with the world? :)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Malfoyish

I wonder the same too but never really asked around. If I ever get something written, I won't mind picking on Del Rey Books to publish my works.

I do have the 2004 Writer's Market Book. It's pretty thick and is filled to the brim with agencies, publishers, etc...unfortunately, it's pretty rough finding one that deals specifically with deaf writers.

I'll let you know if I find anything, though...anything I can do to help!

What do you write?

Hello Malfoyish~

That's awesome to see another person here that truly is inspired by writing!! Likewise, I love to write and have had several poems published in the past...I am currently in the midst of writing a couple of books...children's books and also a book that's related to HoH mainly with some related items to Deaf individuals as well....

I did have a publisher and would have been paid a handsomely 20% royalty which is very good in the world of publishing...sadly, I broke off 'ties' with this publisher last year...and likewise, am looking for a publisher...speaking of a Publisher's Handbook, I have one too, but I think it's a bit outdated...lol...

Have you ever written poems? What kind of story format do you write of? It's really awesome to see another person here that truly loves to write!! :type: :thumb:

Hello!

I'm so so so sorry that it's taken me a while to get back to you.

My writing is mostly fiction, in novel format. I'd love to get someone in the "biz" to look at my work, but there's no saying who's going to bite. The Writer's Market is a wonderful place to look for agents, publishers, etc...but I would assume you have a greater possibility of getting your foot in the door since you've already published some of your work...

Poetry is definitely not my strong point....I can rhyme words and get 'em to flow, but I cannot get anything meaningful in there...LOL. So I'll stick to novels, short stories...stuff like that!

If I hear of anyone who can help you in your journey, I will...til then, just keep trying...we have nothing to lose! :)

Hugs

Ever tried E-book publishing? That might get you started in recognization. Awe Struck ebooks sell this sign language ebook, also have some books that have to do with deaf people.

I've considered it...but sometimes ebook companies don't want to share the rights with publishers that would put it into paperback or hardcover form. :/ I'm a little leery to do so.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into it!

That's no problem taking awhile to get back... ;)
It seems you haven't yet sent out any of your manuscripts to any publisher...as I understand...when you send out a manuscript...sending it to one publisher at a time...I know it's time consuming going that route...yet, to do so creates a better image and respect...generally it does take approximately up to three months, in some cases, longer before you hear whether your manuscript is accepted or rejected...those pink slips may be quite a setback or more of a heartache to bear with, yet...just keep plowing through until one will 'bite'....

Like the fisherman lazily sitting along the grassy shoreline, so-ever glancing with piercing eyes upon the line in the gentle breeze...anticipating a sudden movement any second on a hot summer day! When the bite comes abruptly on the fishing pole, likewise the sudden overwhelming joy of an accomplishment supersedes all the waiting...just as it is with sending out a manuscript and having it taking a 'bite' with acceptance!! :applause:

To keep trying as we go along in our own journeys is a step forward towards acclaim and recognition...one thing though, to personally feel inwardly satisfied and enjoying the writing...is truly the best feeling I can ever have...but then again...when the $$ rolls in...wellllllll...

Wouldn't it behooves anyone of us to have some sort of inner-circle of wannabe writers and accomplished writers who are Deaf/Hoh?? The thought of encouragements and support and even rapport may do wonders during times like when the writing may seem like a struggle or whatever circumstances might be...as we all will have our 'ups and downs days'? Just an  that might be worth a ponder or two....

In the meantime...let the words embed, glittering thoughtfully and spring to life, flowing into 'action'!!
