Wright State University wants to become the first Ohio college to offer a bachelor's degree in sign language.

A Wright State official notes that with the education level of deaf people going up, there's a greater need for more advanced interpreters.

If the Ohio Board of Regents approves the university's plan, the four-year degree program could begin in the fall of 2006.

A sign language professor at Sinclair Community College says most deaf children have hearing parents who do not sign, making the position of education sign language interpreter pivotal to the child's future. Sinclair offers a two-year associate degree in sign language interpreting.

Very cool. Doesn't it seem like ASL and Deaf studies almost seems to be thought of as just community college league?

This is great news considering the fact that Chris did go to WSU (Wright State University) and SCC (Sinclair Community College) as well and he has a job in map technology. He was telling me that WSU is very flexible and accomodating to those with disabilities & isn't surprised that WSU is offering this program.

Very interesting! How about offering foreign sign language courses as a minor or major in US colleges? :)
