LAKEMOOR, Ill. – The planters in Tina Asmus' front yard aren't too pleasing to some of her neighbors, and village officials in Lakemoor have told her to remove them, or face a fine. Asmus, who likes to recycle discarded items, created the planters out of two old toilets and a pedestal sink. Mayor Todd Weihoffen, who is a plumber by trade, said he stands behind police who have given Asmus 30 days to remove the toilets.

He said she faces a fine of $25 to $500 if she doesn't comply by June 15.

Asmus, though, said she will not remove what she calls her "art pieces." She said each toilet planter cost about $100 to make and holds an assortment of daisies, angel's breath, lilies and other flowers.

Well, duh...who wants to look at something that people place their asses on to do not so pleasant business?

*groans*

Who wants to see a couple of toilets sitting in someone's front yard?

No better than people using old tires!

That is also, an eyesore!!!

wow unbeleivable

None of neighbor´s business... If an owner is happy with that what she really like is none of neighbors´ business.

If the neighors don´t like what they see then don´t look at them. This is a simple.

I have seen some werid yard but I do not take it serious because it´s their yard, not mine.

It can affect the value of the properties in the neighborhood and turn off potential buyers for others.

Agree to that!...I've seen some yards with those toilet planters...people laugh about it, (snicker)!...but it's not funny, really. I've seen yards with so many, many, many lawn ornaments too, looks bad! But what we deem "attractive" can look like an "eye sore" to others. Less is actually best!

Tell the woman if the toilets were decorated in such a way as to look less like toilets she would be able to keep them - IE make the toilets blend in with the natural environment or they will have to be removed.

In many subdivisions - the neighborhood board/committee would vote to have the toilets removed.

Some subdivisions limit how many ornaments if any you are allowed to have in your yard.

yes but it doesn't uphold very well to the fact having toilets in the yard is putting on public display what it done in private. It's taboo for a reason. In our society, we don't want to drive down the street to see a house with a bunch of toilets in the front yard. Even in cities where property owners just dispose of toilets into their yards with the rest of the trash are asked to remove them.

Toilets in the yard is just plain trashy.
