Internet: serious business.

tsk tsk.... always make sure your digital footprint is clean

I lol'd.
That remind me of those angry ad members. I'm glad I wasn't shot in Vegas.

I thought that was impossible.
How do you do it?

some people's digital footprints are shockingly too easy to find.... some are not. go try to search for you yourself.

Some people will go all lengths, just simply ignore , its the best policy, sometimes.

I meant I thought it was impossible to keep it completely clean. Searching and finding myself sort of proves the point, doesn't it?

yes it is impossible but you can make it harder. If it's too easy to find one in internet... bad news.

I did a google search on myself and surprisingly my FB page was the 4th google hit down. I googled a friend's name and her FB page was the first hit on google.

I have since disabled the public search feature on my FB to protect myself, I also try to keep what I post online fairly clean and not provoking.

I think i'll try googling my name as well. I have a very common name so it may be trying to find a needle in a haystack. we'll see. Reporting on the results in the next post.

I had a much easier time finding me on Facefinder than Google. However, I am not related to any of the people on the relatives list. And it has the wrong address too.

Even with PGP (encryption)? Just wondering.

PGP's only for encrypting emails between 2 parties. It's not about encryption technology. It's about any electronic information about you such as newspaper, facebook, blogs, photo sites, etc.

bingo! that's one of the way to reduce your digital footprint. I spent a couple hours with FB privacy feature :dizzy: It does require a bit of technical understanding and your time. Since it's not easy to configure especially for regular people... you can imagine how wide open their profiles are to public. Now add in popular social websites like myspace, youtube, and blogger.

Way too exposed. Way too easy to dig a file on you.

it's not just name. Just add in a couple of specific keywords to narrow down the list and one may be able to find you easily.

example: "Jane Doe"
result: obviously it's a common name and it will be like looking for a needle in haystack

example: "Jane Doe deaf implant" or "Jane Doe deaf Ohio"
result: they may be able to find you better now

Wasn't able to get results for my real name and cochlear implants. But i'm sure using my real name and deaf where i used to live will work better.

Found me on google when I googled my real name, deaf and facebook. I tried other stuff as well. I may as well mention that for a long time I refused to get a membership at gorcery stores and other places cuz I have a thing about privacy.
