Woman Killed By Wrong Way Driver Not Just "A Victim" - 11Alive.com | WXIA | Atlanta, GA

The news story described her as "the victim" of a wrong way driver. Jahan Zachery, age 25, was killed early Tuesday morning on the connector near Langford Parkway in downtown Atlanta.

Now her family wants everyone to know Zachery was much more than a "victim". Her twin sisters Jocelyn and Jacquelyn, age 16, and brother Jacques, age 19, said their sister was special. Jacques said he was mad when he heard Jahan was killed by a wrong way driver. "I'm still mad but I'm just learning that things do happen and you have to deal with things," he said. "But certain things can be avoided and this should have been something that should have been avoided."

Atlanta police say Zachery's life was taken by Theus Monroe, age 26. He was driving his car northbound in the southbound lanes of I75/85. He may have been going as fast as 100-miles per hour. Monroe and Zachery were rushed to Grady Hospital where Zachery died this morning. Police say they are waiting for toxicology test results to determine if Monroe was driving under the influence.

Jahan's siblings did the interview with 11-Alive News because their aunt heard her described as a victim of the crash on the news. There was no name because police had not released it to the media. They want people to know more about Jahan. She was deaf, but her brother said that didn't stop her from doing what most sisters do. "Most people might think just because you're deaf or hearing impaired, you can't do certain stuff," he said. "But with her, she didn't let none of that stop her, she did everything we did and she was a good person."

Jahan Zachery graduated from high school at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. She attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC where she majored in psychology.

Her goals in life have been cut short by an untimely and tragic death. Her brothers and sisters are forced to leave us with her legacy and what they want us to know about her. "That she was a loving, caring sister and she did mostly everything that everybody else did," said her sister Jaquelyn. Her sister Jocelyn said she wanted Jahan to be remembered this way: "She always brightened someone's day and I would like them to remember that just because you're deaf, it doesn't stop your life," she said. "Her life will not be in vain."

Thanks to her siblings Jahan Zachery is no longer just a victim.

Theus Monroe, the driver of the wrong way vehicle, is charged with Vehicular Homicide, Reckless Driving, and Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road.
