Juanita Mostert and the well-known cricket player Jacques Rudolph have joined forces to raise funds for deaf cricket.
A glamorous event will be held at the Centurion Lake hotel on October 7. “The campaign is directed to support the national deaf cricket side that will be competing in the Deaf World Cup cricket tournament, which will be held in India during November,” says Juanita.
She appeals to businesses and individuals to pledge their support to this worthy cause. “It is essential that we raise the much-needed funds to send them off on a once in a lifetime experience,” she says.
Juanita, who is a resident of Centurion, is from a family background where sport has always played a major part in everybody’s lives.
Her father, Dereck Sterley, and grandfather, Claude Sterley, both attained national colours in various sports. Dereck is well known in the sporting fraternity for his achievements in rugby and athletics.
Claude has competed in several Olympic Games and is still competing in senior competitive athletics at the age of 94.
Juanita says she made it her mission to support deaf cricket - a cause that is very dear to her heart - because both her children are suffering from hearing impairment.
“My long term goals are to create alliances between corporate institutions and the governing bodies of deaf cricket for the promotion and development of the sport on an ongoing basis,” she says.
