cbs2chicago.com - Woman Cited For Fatally Striking Deaf Woman
A woman was cited Wednesday for fatally backing her sport-utility vehicle Monday morning into a 59-year-old woman on the Southwest Side.
Mariann Gunner, of 3334 W. 37th Pl., was pronounced dead at 1:37 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to a report from the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Gunner, who was deaf, was struck by a 1999 Dodge Durango that was backing up at 3350 W. 37th Pl. at 8:55 a.m. on Monday, according to Deering District Capt. Johnson. The accident happened a few houses away from her home.
Angelica Rangle, 26, was cited with failure to give due care to a pedestrian in a roadway, according to police News Affairs Officer Kristina Schuler.
Rangle was heading east on West 37th Place when she got stuck waiting behind a truck, Schuler said. The woman attempted to go in reverse on the one-way street, when she struck Gunner.
"[The SUV] knocked her down and she suffered severe head trauma," Johnson said.
