Will you make interesting Easter food?

There's a considerable Jewish community in Des Moines...you could always go to a community event!

:)

Good idea but too far from here. I used to live in a large Jewish community in Seattle which was Seward Park neighborhood. I loved the area. :)

Somehow I thought you were in DSM like Botts...where in Iowa are you?
There's Waterloo, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids...they all have Jewish communities.

But you do the egg hunt?

Some families like having a huge Easter dinner...it's definitely a thing where I grew up in Iowa.

We do a big Easter dinner and we used to do the egg hunt. I also used to do a lot of baking and special stuff for Easter, but between the kids growing up, money woes, special diets and all, we will just opt for the Easter dinner. Mother and I want lamb, but MIL wants ham. She hates lamb. Not sure what we will do. A man from the Farmer's Market has said that I need to come see him and his friend who owns the Jewish bakery and they will fix us up for a price.

Oh...you said you "never" did any special stuff for Easter because it as about the Bible and church...*shrugs*

Your loss!

I guess what I meant was I never made a special something like the treat that Botti was showing. I have done Easter egg hunts in our 2 acre yard we used to have for the kids. I remember hiding close to 200-300 eggs and one special egg for each kid. Those eggs had a ticket they gave to me for their new bibles. We started that when they were 3 & 4 and continued until they were 12 & 13. Now, all they want is the candy, but I don't like giving them candy and such. Mother has picked up some Peeps. We go whole hog for Christmas around here.

I make yummy Passover food!

What are you making? I miss having Passover, my family does not get together any more now that our parents are gone. We where good friends with our next door neighbor growing . One Easter the little girl came over and asked my dad what he was cooking and my dad being a tease told her he was cooking
a Kosher ham!! She when home and told her dad we where having a Kosher ham for Easter and he told her there no such thing a Kosher ham!! We celebrated Easter and Passover!

I'm not religious, but like many people on here I will not pass up the opportunity for good food :) I like the Cadbury creme eggs (and the caramel ones too) and I'll also happily eat the cadbury candy-covered chocolate eggs. (I can't remember what they're called, but they are small chocolate eggs have a smooth outer surface unlike any other candy I've ever tried!) Oh yeah, malted robins' eggs, too. I also will usually have peeps once or twice around this time of year -- they're not my favourite though.

Really, I dig both Easter and Valentines day -- lots of sweets at the store ;)

I'm going to my mom and sister's house...I don't know what they are cooking, but I suspect Lori and I will make a flourless chocolate torte since Imma is known for her Cantor/singing skills...not baking.

If I celebrated Easter and my goal was to get tickets for a Bible instead of candy...I'd convert to Judaism...

:giggle:

Ah, but those 200-300 eggs were filled with candy. We also had the chocolate bunnies in the house.

ooooooooooooooooh well yes if you gave me enough CANDY I may read the Bible...

Each year was different. They only got the bibles as their reading level progressed. We had the toddler bibles filled with pictures to start. I still have all of them saved. (I am a MAJOR pack-rat) Kids got new bibles for their last Easter in Missouri (2009) and at that point, they got the one of their choice. Son chose a KVJ, red letter edition, and daughter went with NIV.

I'm in Waterloo, Iowa right now. I prefer Seattle, though. I'm not a fan of Iowa haha. I moved here because of my girlfriend.

I'm just curious...I've had my Tenach forever...it's...well, there's no reason to update. Plus I paid $60.
