Why are there Baptists, Lutherans, Protestants, Methodists, Mormons,

Believe it or not, Catholic means universal. If you are Anglican you consider yourself Catholic. If you are Orthodox I believe you consider yourself Catholic, and of course there are the Roman Catholics. I know that this is true because I know a lot of people who teach theology in universities.

If I understood this correctly, there was initially one church that split into two churches - the Roman Catholic church and the Orthodox Christian Churches. Then, after a while, for one reason or another, groups broke away from the Roman Catholic Church. For example, the Lutherans who followed Martin Luther broke away and the Church of England was founded when the king couldn't get a divorce.

Today we have many different churches that follow Christ, and in my opinion, all of them are beautiful in their own ways.

The Church Universal includes all people ( past, present and future ) who are true followers of Jesus. Only God can grant membership to the Church Universal. God knows which people are truly followers of Jesus and which are pretendin' or just bein' religious. The Bible is very clear about who is a member of the Church Universal. The Bible is also clear that there is only one Church Universal. In God's eyes, there are no Lutherans, Baptists, Presbyterians, Methodists, Catholics, Non- Denominationals, etc.

What is the church?

The church is Christ own body- Eph.1:22-23 " And He subjected all things under His feet and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His Body, the fullness of the One who fills all in all."

The Father's dwelling place-1Tim.3:15 says ...the house of God which is the church of the living God..."

The church is not the building
It is a living composition of all regenerated children of God. If you have not been regenerated with the Father's life you are not a member of the church.

The church is Christ fulness; His expression. If you dont express Christ or if you are not filled with Christ you are not part of the Church. Christ first must be in you before you can express Him. The Church is a matter of God's life and not a human organisation. You can organise something but you cant create life. The church is God's life. You cant creat God's life. so it is inaccurate to say I founded a church. The source of the Church is God Himself. It is the issue of the flowing out of God into man.

Christ Body is One and all the believers of Christ are in Him
There is the universal body of Christ which constitute all the believers all over the world.
And the are local churches in every locality
The universal church is the sum of all local churches
Without the local churches there will be no universal church.
What God is doing is not denominations
God is building the local churches for the building of the universal church
The local church is made up of all the believers in a particular locality. So if you live in Birmingham then, you and all the believers in Christ in Birmingham are the church in Birmingham.

In the Bible we have the church in Corinth (I cor.1:2), the church in Antioch (Acts 13:1), the church in Jerusalem etc and moreover in Revelation the seven letters were sent to the seven churches. Each church was in a particular city; the church in Pergamos, the church in Smyrna, the church in Laodicea, church in Ephesus, church in Thyatira , church in Sardis and church in Philadelphia.

God's desire is for His children to be one.
The divisions today is not of God it is the work of the flesh.

1Cor.3:3-4 " for you are still fleshly. For if there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and do you not walk according to the manner of man?
For when someone says, I am of Paul , and another, I of Apollos, are you not men of flesh?"

Next they start saying that Peter started the Church in Rome when he never went there, or he would have been addressed by Paul in the book of Romans.

Oh, and did I mention that they turn Mary into an object of prayer when the Bible says that Jesus alone is our intercessor? The true religion for Christians is not religion at all, but a relationship with a holy Father who is crazy about us. If He wasn't crazy about us, why would he choose to die on the cross for us?

You might want to be a little more elaborate here. All of the listed characteristics are things that I have examined in the Catholic church with their refutations. If anything I said is wrong, then the Bible must be incorrect.

Bible changed when Luther left CC and created new religions around the world. Your bible is not 100 percent accurate. So why should I believe in your words when u telling us about truth of CC and I knew it is false since I grew up in CC and I do not know where u get those ideas. It is only reason people say those stuffs because they hate CC and tried to find a fault in the Church. Just Heath claimed in other thread CC is anti-christ so people who practice CC are anti-christ also? If so then I knew they were misguided by some kind of unkown prehap their own egos which has nothing to do with Jesus' teaching or guide by Holy Spirit but their own sins which influence their own thoughts and feelings.

Luther studied and found out the priest had fooled people, bec those days people don't have Bible and not only that, I have a friend who is Roman Catholic who believes only priest use the Bible not people. Question is this, how we know priest is honest? Very early catholic have changed thru the century is based on a person who teaches. When Luther studied and found out many had been decieved. Its not catholics itself, its a person who taught. Doesn't matter what church u go, importantly is must be born again, that is God takes control and let Him work in and thru us, not what we do for Him without Him taking control.

Probably the best thing to do would be to consult a professor in a theology department at a local college. A theologian often specializes in history, systematics, ethics, or somthing else that I forget - maybe pastoral ministry. Anyhow, e-mailing a theological historian will probably get you the answer you need.

I'm not a theologian, I'm only going on a few things I heard from my friends from the past that I knew who have gone on to teach theology in various schools involved in the Boston Theological Institute, or BTI. If I'm wrong on anything I said because I misunderstood what I heard, I apologize and stand corrected.

I am Catholic and I read bible everyday my priest encouraged me to read them. Everyone has their own business what to belief. Yet u chose to believe him because he feels this way. He is weird if he believes people should not read bible only priests then something is wrong with him. When I researched my family tree and found out several memebers of my family in 1800's they were illerate and how hell do they know how to read bible if they can not read. They were southern Bapitists, how do they know about God is by go to chruch and listen to pastor all of their life. How do u know they were notbeing maniuplate by pastors? No difference between in those old days and 100 years ago by protestants. Only reason I go to CC because I enjoy go there and feel God present in the Church. True, not all catholics are the same and even baptist, methodist and etc aren't the same. Well, not just protestant attack catholics, catholics also attack protestants, but instead I look at that way, its individual behavior, not church label. My brother is a southern baptist pastor who lives in catholic communtiy and they are very cold shoulder to my brother, bec he's "not one of them". But one catholic is friendly and loves my brother. It doesn't matter what church you go and I go, each of us has a responsiblity how we should treat, not by saying " you will go to heaven if.....(whatever church)". I don't believe in that and even tho some catholics does believe you must be born again. My in law is catholic and few times I go to her church, but feeling very uncomfortable and I don't agree how they use, does that mean they aren't one of us, NO. They have faith in Christ just I myself have. Like I said, its individual, not the whole church.
